Bangalore Blues

  4.5 – 24 reviews   • South Indian restaurant

Bangalore Blues is a Pochys initiative. Pochys started with a mission to provide Bangalore style food made from scratch at the Gilman District. The focus was mainly on fresh food, taste, quality which are what we expect at home. Bangalore Blues adds to that ethos with a great ambiance, jazz music and very soon cocktails that complement the unapologetic bold flavors Pochys offered. Enjoy Crispy (yet spongy) dosas, soft idlis, Donne biriyani, Kathi rolls, Gobi manchurian, chicken 65, Vada Pav to name a few classic items. Our hope is for people to experience Bangalore food with the nostalgia of the Laid-back city from the 80’s while getting soaked in soulfulness of Karnataka through classical, blues and jazz music.

We went to Bangalore Blues tonight and it’s outstanding. It’s a beautiful space and the food is really good. The ghee dosa was eaten too quickly for pictures but it’s really good and the Gobi Manchurian was unlike any I’ve had. Highly recommend. This is a really thoughtful menu and meticulous ingredients and execution. Looking forward to more. ps. My son wants to give it 6 stars.

We stumbled on to Bangalore Blues during their soft opening and went for lunch. I am sure they were/are still ironing some things out, but our dosas were delicious. They’re a little thicker than the style I am used to, but I loved the perfectly crisp exterior and tangy chew. The filling was also excellent. Delicious coconut chutney. The sambar was a bit thin and plain (i.e no visible chunks), but overall we were very pleased with the meal and we will definitely go back. Loved the chai too!

Great newly opened south indian restaurant. The dosa here was great. I loved the tenali kura roll and chicken 65. Everything here was spiced perfectly. They mill their own spices, do not use canned produce, use everything fresh. Not only the food was great but I also liked their service and ambiance. It was a great experience.

The dosa and coffee are authentic and genuinely enjoyable, making this place worth a visit for South Indian flavors. However, there were a couple of drawbacks that affected the overall experience.

There was only one waitress on duty, and once the restaurant filled up, service became slow. After requesting the check, we waited about 15-20 minutes to receive it.

Additionally, a 20% service charge is automatically applied, and on top of that, a 20% tip was added. This pricing structure is not clearly communicated and should be stated more transparently, especially since the service charge is applied upfront.
Great food, but clearer pricing and improved staffing would make the experience much better.

The food was phenomenal, felt like home on a plate. If you’re looking for food cooked with love, this is the place to be. We were craving some good Biriyani so we came here and had our minds blown.

They explained the process of how they source their proteins and the time they take to cook the food. You could see how they use expensive and good produce because what you got on your plate was something you’d get only in some expensive restaurants. They make the ghee themselves too so they’re using homegrown ingredients. The spices are all brought in from India as well. The quantity of the food was plenty, price for what we got was well worth it and the ambience made you feel like you were sitting in a slow jazz-blues themed restaurant made out of love for the craft. I could go on but I think you should judge for yourself on how great the food is. For anyone who does not like a lot of spice, the food you get here is perfect for you. 10/10, I have found my new spot and I cannot wait to visit again. I do not write long reviews like this but this place made it feel worth it, especially after a long drive in from Monterey.

Delicious food prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients and care. Loved the dosa and idli with the fresh ghee, and the delicious panna cotta. Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere. The owner is very nice and welcoming and the server and staff as well.

“This dosa reminded me why simple food is the best food. Crispy, light, and made fresh to order. The potato filling was flavorful and the chutneys were spot on. not oily, not heavy, just right. You can taste the freshness in every bite. Highly recommended!”

Tried Bangalore Blues in Berkeley and had the kathi roll idli and donne biryani both were phenomenal. The flavors felt authentic and really well thought out.

What stood out even more was the owner super nice, incredibly passionate about the food, and genuinely open to feedback. It’s great to see a brand-new restaurant where the owner actively listens and keeps improving the menu.

Wishing them the best, and I’ll definitely be back to see how the menu evolves. Highly recommend giving this place a try!
