Mélange is one of those spots that surprises you in the best way. I ordered the Double Decker burger, and it was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly stacked. The berbere fries were seasoned just right—crispy with real flavor, not just salt.

I also love that they have a bar and are known for their doro chicken, which makes this a great spot whether you’re stopping in for a meal or a relaxed night out. Everything felt intentional, from the food to the vibe. Definitely a place I’ll be returning to and recommending to others.

It’s a small place but the food is outstanding. I got the Double Decker burger and it was heavenly. I’ve heard the Classic is also very good.

I like how you can mix and match entrees and sides among the three restaurants. That’s how I got the collard greens as a side.

Stopped by here for dinner after an early show at the 930 Club. They have a takeout window but I opted to dine in at the small but eclectic and vibey little indoor dining area and bar.

I had two amazing handhelds:

THE NATIONAL (spicy doro wat style fried chicken, kebe aioli, turmeric slaw, runny fried egg) – loved the smokey and spicy flavor of this atypical chicken sandwich, incredible blend of flavors.

THE FRENCHIE (caramelized onions, gruyere, dijonnaise) – the caramelized onions x the gruyere was everything, and the tender patty lathered with the mustardy mayo was the perfect complement.

Service was friendly and solid. Definitely will return.

HANDS DOWN the best fried chicken AND best burger in the city!
Their spicy chicken is super hot and so moist and the burgers are better than anything I’ve ever experienced and they’re grinding their own local Black Angus beef daily in-house!

The berbere spiced fries are also amazingly spicy and have a ton of dipping sauces to choose from.

Grab a drink at the outdoor side of the bar when the doors are up and order from the coolest bartenders around (shout out to Niki!)

I had the Frenchie burger, collards, mac n cheese, and their version of a French 75 (not pictured). The burger was cooked a little pink in the middle. It was nearly perfect and the caramelized onions made the burger. Mac was good, but the collards stood out. French 75 was also a solid cocktail. The service was standout, and the outdoor bar/ garage door style wall was a perfect atmosphere for a late summer evening dinner. Definitely recommend if you are in Shaw/ near U Street.

The chicken tenders here are SO good, and the berbere sauce isn’t too spicy. Mac and cheese was also delicious. The indoor-outdoor bar is a great use of the space, and the bartender/server was so nice and attentive. Excited to try their Ethiopian fusion tacos!

I got the Italian burger, and for $18 it was pretty mid. It was supposed to have a spicy aioli and there wasn’t a HINT of spice. I ordered medium rare and got well-done. It tasted ok. Their heater’s broken so it was freezing in there (not their fault though). I probably won’t be back

This place really knows how to do fusion right! From the burgers to the soul food (the chicken is fire) to the tacos, it all hits the spot and provides a delicious dose of ethiopian fusion flavors with every bite.
