Of course, not having access to the exact same ingredients you’d find in Montreal is always a challenge, but they absolutely pull it off. The dishes are delicious in their own way while still respecting the originals.
The tartare was fresh and well balanced, the meat was cut by knife / hand, the poutine comforting and satisfying, and the smoked meat sandwich hit the spot. I also had a couple of house cocktails and wasn’t disappointed. To top it off, we ordered a bottle of bubbly that paired perfectly with lunch in the Mexican heat while sitting on the terrace on Avenida Constituyentes.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. It’s officially on my go-to list in Playa del Carmen.
On another day, my father in law tried to reserve in person during the afternoon and was made to feel unwelcome, that they were busy, won’t take reservations in person and to just send a message by text.
He did and we thought we had the reservation booked but when we arrived they didn’t have our reservation, apparently they didn’t see his message confirming the time, but since it was clearly sent in the messages they accommodated.
I already felt like not going for doing all of this but since we went through so much trouble, we were there and I really wanted to try we stayed. We were told we had two hours before our table was needed for another party.
Once seated the service was good and pleasant, and served in a timely manner. The duck poutine was good but I would’ve hoped for more than just a bit of shredded duck for the price. My kids split a poutine (which they usually love) but didn’t really like the sauce (personally I did). The smoked meat was great, and the salmon tartar was okay but missing a bit of flavor. The ACs inside were not cool enough to keep the inside at a decent temperature, better sit outside in the breeze if you don’t want to be hot.
We were just an hour in and had already waited 10 minutes to be offered the dessert menu as they were busy seating people and serving but instead we were given the check which we didn’t ask for. We took our cue and left without eating dessert.
So all things considered we were quite disappointed with our experience, made to feel unwanted on 3 separate occasions and the food was good overall but in Playa there’s a million options elsewhere for good food, so we won’t be back and go somewhere else where customers feel wanted instead.
Very slow service, very hot inside and without enough ventilation, ok outside but road noise of course. Cocktails nice to see but without much taste, as well as the food, good raw ingredients quality, but very light taste, also the Thai salad was just a very normal salad with some shrimps and strawberries and thai sauce aside, and even for the Mac’n’cheese with duck only the duck was really tasty, the pasta was a little bit overcooked and again with light taste. Also long wait (about 40 minutes) to get served with drinks and food even if only 3 tables occupied.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend it, but with improvements on the service speed and food taste (just a little bit more salt sometimes is enough) I’d give it another chance. The staff was kind though, and listen to our critique to the cocktails (we ordered the version with alcohol but we weren’t able to find any trace of it in the drink, so we told them and they made us pay the mocktail cost which was lower).
They have two menus: a regular menu, which is amazing, and a world menu that changes every week! Featuring a different country each time.
From the steaks to the tartares and the rotating international dishes, it’s a very unique experience that is definitely worth it
