Great food in a homey setting! Great salad bar and super rib eye! Friendliest staff you have ever seen! Only downside was on a Friday night we got there at 5pm and they were almost full… and it stayed that way till we left… so just know to go early or be prepared to wait… but you can always have a drink at the bar while you wait

We were out today exploring the historic Northern Neck and decided to try The Oaks restaurant. I’m glad we did! We were greeted as soon as we came through the door by the owner, Monty Carter, who was very accommodating and friendly. As soon as he seated us, one of his waitresses came over and asked if she could get us something to drink while we viewed the menu, which she did immediately. I decided on the hand cut ribeye steak, loaded baked potato, and a trip to the salad bar. My wife had the filet mignon, baked sweet potato, and lime beans. The steaks as well as the rest of the food were cooked perfectly, just like we asked. The atmosphere and the staff were terrific, and we will definitely be returning!

The Oaks is a friendly place, very welcoming. In fact, you might call it lively, as the town name implies..locals gather and chat..I felt I walked into a get together at a friend’s place.

If you need decor or trendy, this won’t be for you. However, if you want decent ample tasty food, it might be just what you need.
The salad bar was small, but fresh. The main course flavorful. Yes, the bar was lively! The staff very friendly n attentive. Give it a try!

UPDATE
The other day my once a year craving for a good steak lead me back to The Oaks..locals told me this was the place to go!. Well they were correct.. the first good steak I had since I moved from NYC..done just the way I liked it, and with true flavor. I’d love a switch up offering to steak au poivre, my personal favorite you just don’t find in this area . Seems they can do it justice! Love that on the menu for my 2nd steak meal! Michelle, our waitress was very friendly and attentive, food arriving as we needed it, no lags in time.

Some food improvements to enhance the experience (in my view)..fresh green beans, maybe almondine? and more tomato based Lasagna sauce to that dish..bring grated cheese with it. Offer garlic bread??

If you’re hunting for a good steak dinner this just might be the place!

Now this is where you go if you’re looking for Southern, home style cooking. Just good food with a mix of seafood and steaks. The service is warm, and the atmosphere is appropriately old fashioned. It’s quite popular, so get there on the earlier side if you don’t want to wait.

” Home of the Ribeye” ! The steak was incredible and cooked just like I asked for. My wife had the fried oysters and loved them. Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. It felt like a neighborhood restaurant, which I loved.

Arrived on a Thursday night and the place was packed. We came a lot later than usual and it was Halloween, so that was on us. We sat in a nice waiting room for about a half hour, maybe more, but the folks around us were super nice and we just enjoyed socializing until our table was ready. It was almost as if they were doing seatings because at the same time a number of tables opened up. The hostess was overwhelmingly nice and the waitress was perfect for a local spot. Both were well seasoned and charming.

I ordered the Lively Combo which was just about all the seafood lightly fried. Almost a Calabash style. Fish, clams, shrimp and oysters. For the sides I went with green beans and mashed potatoes w/ gravy. Both of which would have been just the way my mom made them. Finally, since that wasn’t enough, they lured me into the desserts. There were over a half dozen options and I went with the Lemoncello cake which definitely put me over the edge of awesome. Definitely a recommended home town spot.

This is a relatively small restaurant and bar. The food is good, the service, though often rushed, is good, but it’s so loud that we had trouble hearing each other while sitting at a small four-top.
Desserts are excellent.
