Finally seated, we ordered starters off their valentines menu. I got the shrimp firecracker and my husband got the crab cake! I kid you not, it took almost an hour for these ‘simple’ starters to arrive! We had to ask our server several times like should an appetizer take this long? To add insult to injury, people who’d been seated after us had already received their meals! At least both meals tasted great!
Mains were the 16oz ribeye and the halibut with nice shareable sizes of mushroom, grilled Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac n cheese! These tasted lovely and were decently portioned! The ribeye steak was kinda tough even though we’d asked for medium rare!
Dessert was the carrot cake which was nice! Strange they don’t offer simple ordinary ice cream! Everything was either coming with gelato or nothing! Strange again!
They also need to instill some kind of dress code! There was the most atrocious dressing for some of their patrons which was just an eye sore! I’m not saying it’s a high class theater and people need to be dressed to the nines but come on, some families came with kids, others were elderly couples, we don’t want to see barely dressed women with their chest areas falling out as we try eat! They really could have a dress policy, we’ve seen other high class restaurants do so!
To make the chaotic night even more unpleasant, my husband paid the bill (a hefty price cause these dishes ain’t cheap). He ‘tipped’ our server a decent amount which we thought was alright, but the server came back to complain about how small the tip was! I kid you not, after just paying a pretty penny of over +$350 for substandard service (our server was just ok, we’ve had far better elsewhere), mediocre customer care and a so so experience, for that server to say that was madness!
We quickly got out of there! The whole VDay experience was just ok! We’ve been to some real fine dining restaurants before and some casual simple restaurants too and have had a better experience at those places too! Grill on 21; mid experience!
We started with the lollipop lamb chops—four generous, perfectly cooked pieces that were absolutely delicious. For dinner, the Delmonico ribeye was outstanding, served with mushrooms and potato purée (mashed potatoes). A standout touch: the steak comes with a half head of roasted garlic to mix into the potatoes, along with two different specialty salts that elevated every bite.
The smoked Old Fashioned is an absolute must. It had the perfect balance of smoke and flavor—hands down one of the best we’ve had.
Our server, Eric, was phenomenal. Every recommendation he made was spot on, and his attention to detail truly enhanced our experience. The managers were also present throughout the evening, checking in with guests and making sure everything was flawless.
As we were leaving for a play, a three-piece quartet was setting up for live music, adding yet another layer to the already fantastic atmosphere. Exceptional food, impeccable service at every level, and a warm, polished ambiance—this place sets the standard and is a definite must-return.
The food was ok but has gotten noticeably lower quality for many of the dishes that were on the menu previously. Like lobster thermidor? But with gnocchi? No, terrible, flavorless and not lobster thermidor. There was little flavor, none of the traditional fixings that come with lobster thermidor, and the little tiny chopped pieces of lobster was definitely not what I received the last time I ordered this at this restaurant.
We were first served a small puff pastry and then our choice of bread with French butter and Tuscan olive oil. It was a nice intro into the meal.
We ordered an appetizer of Oysters Rockefeller and entrees of Steak Frites and Roasted Chicken. We loved the food, although my one nit to pick was that the steak was slightly more underdone than we had requested and chewy. Nonetheless, we cleaned out plates.
The service was ok. The restaurant itself was quite nice. Yet, we overall observed a very pretentious vibe from patrons and staff altogether. Obviously, you’re going to get that more in the city, especially with nice restaurants, but it was still more than we had anticipated.
In sum, we had a great time and a good meal. The vibe was a bit off for us, but that may just be a personal preference type of thing. I might visit again if I was staying immediately nearby.
