The Experience:
The service here is “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” fast, but without the rushed attitude. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Pro-Tip for my fellow service members: They offer a military discount, which is always a class act and much appreciated.
The Main Event:
We tackled a massive shared “bucket” featuring 2 lbs of crab legs and 2 lbs of shrimp. In the world of seafood boils, overcooking is the ultimate sin, but everything here was executed to perfection. The shrimp were snap-tender (not rubbery erasers), and the crab was sweet and succulent. Even the supporting cast—the potatoes and corn—were seasoned to the core, not just glazed on the outside.
The Verdict: This is the ultimate spot for a group that wants a high-quality, messy, delicious boil without the two-hour “tourist trap” wait times.
Power Move: Wear the bib. Your shirt will thank you, and the garlic butter deserves your full attention, not your laundry bill.
Our server was a very polite young man named Ethan. He was very enthusiastic. My wife had a snow crab and shrimp boil, she also had a pineapple and green tea drink. I had the haddock and chips, and calamari starter. I had a Sprite to drink. All in all, I would have to give it a double thumbs up. Atmosphere was quite interesting, the facility was very clean, and the bathrooms were spotless. That bodes well for the quality and cleanliness of the food and the kitchen itself. I would recommend this establishment. I’ve seen more and more of these crab houses, and they really are very nice. I also like the idea that this establishment gives you these curved scissors to use along with the shell cracker. That makes it much easier to remove the shell and get to the meat. Less mess!
The pasta and vegetable rice, both with sausage, are really good. The first time, I ordered them with shrimp, and added sausage, and that was good too. Today, both dishes were a bit on the drier side, but nothing a little splash of water couldn’t fix. And although really good, I did have to season up my pasta a little bit more today. Between the two, I like the rice more. And lastly, my God today, I tried their crab ragoons, and baby, those were the best damn ragoons I’ve had in my entire life, literally! I’m kind of hesitant about sharing that tidbit because I don’t want them to be sold out the next time I visit to get some, but oh well, the public must know they are that good!
Any who, that concludes my review of Family & Crab.
