Bayan Ko Diner is an independently owned Filipino | Cuban restaurant in Chicago founded by Chef Lawrence Letrero, who is Filipino & his partner Raquel Quadreny who is Cuban. Their menu is a combination of dishes from their heritage, inspiration from family recipes, and chef Lawrence’s experience with contemporary American cooking. Went for dinner with my husband. Loved the vibes and service! I also love that you can do half orders of the food so you can try several different dishes! For two people they recommend 2-3 full orders or 4-6 half orders, so we got 5 half orders and dessert (we had leftovers and were SO full). My favorite thing I ate was the halo halo banana split, it was soooo good! Something I was a little disappointed in was the fried pork belly dish, unfortunately it didn’t taste as good as I had hoped. I would definitely come again for the dessert and the chicken skewers!

Bayan Ko Diner was amazing! This Cuban-Filipino restaurant has a totally nice vibe, and the food fusion is interesting to say the least. The food is decently priced, and they have separate menus for brunch and dinner. The staff is polite, and the overall experience was great. I highly recommend this place for the food and will definitely be back for more!
I had the half portion of lumpia, which was so good, and the Cubano burrito, which was amazing. For drinks, I had a virgin hibiscus, though that was just okay. A quick tip: definitely book a table ahead of time. The bar seating is very limited (I think only 7 seats) and they fill up fast. Also, don’t leave without trying the ube ice cream – it is amazing!

Had brunch and I was it surprisingly Delicious! Had the shreded beef empanada, sisig, and silos longanisa! Best to have reservations. Prices were ok, good portions though! Got seated fast, service was fast and very attentive. Highly recommended!

Street parking available but no restaurant designated parking. They were busy but we were still able to get a table. The tables are a bit close to each other so privacy is a bit compromised. Service was good though our server was a bit forgetful so he had to go back and forward a few times to get everything we asked for. The crab dip was amazing but the crochets and Cuban sandwich were missing some flavor and some kick. It’s definitely a cool place to dine in but would not visit again.

I had a late lunch at Bayan Ko, and it was delicious! I ordered the beef empanadas, Ropa Vieja, and the Ube banana split. The beef brisket in the Ropa Vieja, and empanadas was quite flavorful. The garlic rice, plantains, and black beans that came with the Ropa Vieja were tasty as well. My favorite was definitely dessert. It had so many flavors and textures but it all worked very well together! In addition, the staff was friendly, service was quick, and they play great R&B. Its overall a great experience.

Food was delicious, portion sizes were perfect, and the interior is a great vibe.
The side of Ube pancakes were really good. Their linguica was my favorite meat as well. And the garlic rice with the egg was delicious. Been there twice and excited to go back!

Delicious food, beautiful drinks, and okay service. I got reservations for three people same day on a Friday at 5:30pm, however as I was making the reservation at 12pm and times were slipping away quickly. Definitely make it further in advance if you want a later time!
Food – we got happy hour prices (1 dollar off still nice). We got the Jamon Croquettes: lumpia for appetizers (definitely more than enough for 2 adults 1 kid). We then got the pork belly ½ plate (SO MUCH). It was so crunchy, so juicy, perfectly cooked. And then we got the ropa vieja. It comes with black beans, pulled beef, plantains which were soooo good, and a garlic rice. Everything was delicious.
Dessert we had the banana split which is very unique.
For drinks we had brut, and an pinoy colada, the colada was purple and full of ube, so pretty.

Love Cuban food. Love Filipino food. Love them together. Food was excellent. Good neighborhood vibes. The garlic rice is like crack. I could just eat a bowl of that, nothing else.

The decaf coffee ☕️ was unbelievably good. The flan with Pandan and Ube ice cream was out of this world! And the service was beyond polite and amazing… even right before closing on Saturday night! Definitely coming back!
