The avocado instead of cheese I asked tofu, awesome change, they should change it that way. It could be more inclusive. I would love to see more plant based options in this type of places. We also tried a chai latte, with soy milk (nice that they have plenty of plant based milks). The chia pudding was awesome as well.
An easy addition would be a tofu scramble, since they have several different egg options. Again, it would be more inclusive.
Great service
From the moment we were seated, our server Lyn made the experience exceptional. I was honestly surprised (in the best way) to learn this was only her third shift. She was friendly, polite, attentive, and incredibly helpful, but what really set her apart was her personality. She made us feel genuinely welcome, comfortable, and cared for — something you can’t teach and something that truly defines a great server. She was confident, engaging, and warm, and she absolutely elevated the entire dining experience.
The management also deserves recognition — Arianna was wonderful and very present, ensuring everything ran smoothly and checking in to make sure guests were happy. That level of leadership really shows in the overall service quality. The Chef came out to verify everything was great, and met our expectations (again as Safina always does!)
Safina already has great food and a beautiful atmosphere, but this time the #1 service is what made this memorable. Lyn made our experience, hands down. Because of her, and the great food made this visit stand out from previous ones, and she’s the reason I felt compelled to leave this review.
Exceptional service like this is rare — keep doing what you’re doing!
Our second interaction with Safina was for the birthday lunch we booked with the restaurant. Let me be frank, the website is EXTREMELY misleading. This is very much a hotel dining room and not nearly the upscale restaurant vibe the inter webs and website portray. I will say that most of the wait staff was as accommodating as they could be with us for this special milestone birthday. (Although, one of our guests overheard waitstaff complaining about our large party and another one that she had to service). The menu DOES NOT offer Mediterranean cuisine, aside from hummus & pita chips. You should not market yourself as a “Mediterranean inspired” restaurant in Houston, TX only to include hummus on your menus. The rest was Italian, seafood, and American faire. I won’t even review the food as it’s not worth the time to type. Not impressed.
Service was EXTREMELY slow. Our reservation was for 12:30, however we waited at our table for 15 min to have a glass of water poured, only after we had to ask the bar staff and were told our server was on her lunch break and would be with us shortly. Basic requests such as separate checks for guests seemed to be too much by the waitress to handle, 35 minute wait time for 3 mimosas, and appetizers that never showed up. The bussers were very helpful, especially Briceida who helped cut and plate the birthday cake. Lilith was also very helpful in trying to offer solutions and answers for us. We tried to remain as positive and patient as possible during this experience as not to ruin the birthday girl’s special day. Safina is subpar for the dining experience it claims to be for guests of this hotel. It serves its purpose as a typical hotel restaurant and nothing more. The beautiful mural featured on the website is in a private room behind closed doors. There’s is another smaller mural in the main dining, however, a booth is against the wall, which really takes away from the artwork.
I hope this honest review helps someone out, as we felt mislead during the whole experience from start to finish.
Beautiful atmosphere so clean and spacious.
The service and staff are great, the food is super!
The mixed bites/ appetizer had falafel and the taste and texture are on point!
The lamb shank very nice has more of an Indo-pakistani flavor. We also had the rack of lamb one of the best I had in houston so far, bravo!
I sure will come again, and I do recommend to try Safina
