On the surface this is a throwback old school American Chinese takeout complete with Moo Goo Gai Pan which btw is an underrated classic. I mean it just tastes very simple but also has flavor. But ever notice those wood tile tags in Chinese on the wall posing as decor to the unbeknownst. That’s the “secret” “hidden” menu. Asking about it unlocks a photo book of what “they” would eat. More greens and veggie choices, fried fish. One of the workers is also the stereotype service giver meaning they are not “friendly”, not helpful or generous. They are all business and give you what you ask for and add the up charges versus the comps. The other worker sees off menu interest, presents the book AND circles a menu of favorites typically ordered by [your people] after confirming your people. lol. So go there and unlock that menu if you want to venture beyond General Tsos or mix and match.

There is a wide variety of dishes, and the flavors are very popular. The restaurant is kept clean and tidy, the dining environment is comfortable, and it is very well liked!

They get a 3 for now, 1st time customer from out of town, asked for extra onion in my chicken and beef fried rice, paid for it and still didn’t get it, egg rolls were too soft, their large size is not what you get in Hampton Roads they know how to feed you.

Not sure why reviewers would ever try comparing China Cafe to a white linen asian restaurant as this type of comparison is nonsensical. Therefore, anything less than 5-stars is demeaning and culturally marginalizing which China Cafe does not deserve.
And at least two tables seated with 2-4 customers each eating in the restaurant. So yes a great place to satisfy that itch for old school Americanized Chinese food.

I come here fairly often for lunch, and I usually end up getting the beef lo mein.
The price is excellent, it has plenty of vegetables in it, and if there’s enough to cover two meals. I would strongly recommend!

I am doing a rehab house near this restaurant, I would order 2 to 3 times a week for lunch delivery to the house. Today, we work in the basement with loud tools, my people didn’t hear the door knock, I was busy with a customer and didn’t answer my phone. Finally, when done, I called back to the driver, in broken English with heavy Chinese accent, he started to yell at me and cussing for not answering my phone. This is the most rude person I have encountered in my life and if you don’t want to be cussing or yell at. Do not order or buy food from here.

I had the combo Lo Mein and my son had the combo fried rice both were very bland and within 25 minutes of eating both of us had to use the restroom. I will not be ordering from this establishment again. You win some you lose some but at least we gave it an opportunity.

**DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME**
Ordered food for my wife and I, that was extremely expensive with the quality of food that doesn’t reflect the prices.
My wife has a diverse food selection and she never waste food. Oh, well today was the day she immediately threw her pork fried rice and lo mein straight in the trash! We also got broccoli and orange chicken I had the garlic chicken that was bland. I tried to help apply soy sauce, salt, rice, whatever and I just consumer a small portion until it was unbearable. To cap off the night, we both had some good stomach blows with flatulence.
Confused as to why this spot is still operating with such low food standards and have the nerve to over charge!

Ordered multiple dishes, orange chicken sweet and sour, Kung pow chicken, and a dish that was called phoenix and dragon. Only thing that was somewhat decent was the kung-pow chicken everything else tasted frozen or like it was boiled in the same water. Very disappointing
