A trip back in time for this wonderful hot dog place in heaven. We had some amazing got hogs, Mac salad, baked beans, cheese curds (aka spicy cheese balls), Mac & cheese and can’t forget the ice cold chocolate milk!
The restaurant was very cute and extremely clean.
The staff to include the hot dog chef were so friendly and accommodating. Insider fact I learned, you may have your hotdog “fried” if that’s your thing!
I HIGHLY recommend bringing your friends and family. I wish I lived near Texas Hotdogs!

Walked in waited to order and actually heard the girl behind the counter taking orders today tell a customer shes not sure why people come here the foods not that great. Thats a great employee right there. She was white and kinda on bigger side physically.
And really, no pickles for burgers???? Thats insane. How hard is it to supply pickles?!
Do better.
Then i got home. My oder was completely wrong as was my wifes. Cant people read orders?? Never again.

I was on an unexpected trip across the Eastern U.S. to take a stranded woman I met in the street home to her family in Ohio and we passed this place. We have a hotdog in Central New Jersey called the “Texas Wiener”, which is legendary and supposedly was never from Texas, so I had to stop in to see if the “Texas Hotdog” of Altoona was like our Texas Wiener. And it was. It was pretty much the same thing, and that’s a good thing.
Not only that, but all of the food was delicious, from the curds to every other side. I left the place waddling! The staff were so friendly, treating me like family. If I ever can go back, I will. I’d sidetrack a road trip to make sure I pass.

Being someone who lived in Texas for twenty years I can assure you this is not Texas food..The hot dogs were too small and Texas chili doesn’t have beans and it’s not soupy..Also the Steer burger came right out of the microwave..I didn’t have any of the sides but the hot dog was the size of a hot dog I’d give my toddler …To each his own I guess but I wasn’t impressed .

Excellent hot dog joint! Texas style with everything is mustard, chili and onions. Fries are fresh and crispy. Friendly counter service. Typical hot dog stand seating. Delicious.

The hot dogs were cold I asked them to heat them . They handed me two back, they were just as cold! Also there was something very sweet in the sause or ? This place is not what it used to be! The food is awful compared to a few years ago!

Came for a quick bite to eat i noticed the people ahead of me got a bigger order and seen the “hotdog chef” put the hot buns up his bare hairy arm . On one hand i was like oh cool on another, oh im glad that wasn’t my food! Pretty disgusting and unsanitary.. The little girl with brown hair was very nice and welcoming. Great customer service

Not a bad place to grab a quick bite to eat. The place has been serving hungry patrons for over 100 years, which makes eating here just as much a participation in history as it does a filling of the tank. The staff is experienced and can put together hotdogs faster than you would expect. The food is on the saltier side, so if you are sodium conscious customer be mindful. All in all, it is a good place with lots of history, and certainly worth a try.

Rude staff: don’t even bother. Do yourself a favor and go to the downtown location where the staff are kind and welcoming. Our last two visits were horrible- we were polite and were frankly treated awful. The short young lady with brown hair at the register was the only nice employee. The young man and girl with straight dark hair were particularly rude. We will never return to this location.
