Taj of India – 51-52 Cheap St: Authentic Indian Cuisine Awaits
Reviews
We’ve dined in and ordered takeaway multiple times, and the quality is always consistently excellent. We order almost every other week and truly appreciate that the taste, portion sizes, and overall standard remain exactly the same whether eating in or at home. Delivery is always prompt, food arrives hot, and the drivers are friendly and attentive. This has been the first takeaway restaurant (and we’ve lived in many places before) from which we’ve never experienced an issue with missing items or incorrect orders.
I’m also very happy with the seasoning. While I’ve seen some older reviews mention it being too strong, I personally find the balance of spices perfect: it’s full of flavour without overpowering the dishes.
Everything is well-seasoned and beautifully balanced. I highly recommend the Lamb Biryani, which is consistently cooked to perfection. Definitely a place I always go back to. We have ordered both on Deliveroo and through their Website and always had a pleased experience
The staff is wonderful, such personal service! The chef made a special appetizer plate…. They have a great banquet dinner on Monday and Thursdays.
We will miss everyone when we return to the US.
I recently dined at Taj of India, expecting authentic Indian cuisine, but what I received was far from it. This is, in reality, a Bangladeshi restaurant misrepresenting itself as Indian, deceiving unsuspecting customers who don’t know the difference.
The food was a major letdown. The naan was oddly sweet, the gravies tasted almost identical across different dishes, and the rice was poorly cooked. It lacked the distinct flavors, depth, and authenticity that define true Indian cuisine. Also adding a slice of an entire pepper which is uncooked with seeds in it isn’t decoration just a chef gone off the rails.
Beyond the food, the overall atmosphere and service were distinctly Bangladeshi, which would be fine if the restaurant were honest about its origins. However, marketing it as “Indian” while serving a completely different culinary experience is misleading and does a disservice to Indian food.
