We happened upon this little gem while duck hunting out here. Tina was only serving breakfast that day and the 2 specials were delicious, especially those huge fluffy pancakes! Everything is homemade and Tina is very friendly and welcoming! Be sure and stop in if you’re near it!

Phenomenal food and service!! Knoefla soup was delicious. Homemade buns. You need to stop in here. Wishing I saved more room for dessert.

Sadly, Carol has had to retire. Luckily for Robinson the Lions Club has found Tina to take over ownership of the cafe. The knoephla will never be the same as Carol’s (still really good!) but don’t worry, the burgers are awesome and the pulled pork sandwich is like nothing you’ll get at any other small town cafe. So is the selection of beverages. The name will be changed to The Fox Hole in December of 2024. For the rest of October 2024 it will be open every day from 8 AM until after sunset (for the hunters). After that the regular hours will be 8 AM until probably 2 PM with the possibility of a monthly Friday pizza night and being open when the Bethany Lutheran Church (the only church left in town) has its monthly service.

You somehow stumbled across this review…for a little place along a road nowhere near the interstate that if you blinked twice at speed limit you wouldn’t even realize there was a town you just passed by. You must be lost, a hunter, a local, a friend of a friend, a little insane, or really really adventurous.
Well…you better hurry…Carol and her attitude aren’t getting any younger. She makes the best knoephla soup that’s shipped all over the USA and she runs out. Definitely better than knoephla in the nearby towns.
Her buns, “the ones she bakes” are fluffy bites of clouds that makes all her other great food even better.
Carlos’ restaurant…umm..I mean Carol’s doesn’t serve any metropolis modern such as fusion, vegan, organic, gluten free. She serves the best good old fashion food. Don’t ask for tacos or a Chinese dish unless you want a sharp tongue and a long cold stare in your direction.
Cash only…no credit cards.
Every breakfast item is satisfying. I don’t know how else to describe the richness of the flavor…just comfortably satisfying.
Lunch (which they call dinner, because the evening meal is supper) is hearty.
The coffee is hot brown water with a waft of coffee smell.
She usually closes up somewhere around 2-3pm. If you need food after, better hope the bar is open and has a pizza or prepare to drive 11-15 miles to Pettibone or Tuttle (opposite directions of each other, hope they are open or it’s a longer drive).
This place should be a state landmark. I don’t think anything in North Dakota will receive a Michelin star any time in the next ever. But it should be on Diners, Dive-ins and Dives or you next adventure.
