The Caboose Café feels like it’s tucked away in the middle of nowhere, down a small hill, under an overpass, surrounded by not much of anything and somehow that just makes it better. The food was amazing, the prices were incredibly reasonable, and the atmosphere was exactly what you hope for in a local spot.
The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a group of local farmers sitting together who immediately made us feel welcome. Absolute gentlemen. That kind of warmth can’t be faked. Our waitress was down-to-earth, friendly, and very attentive.
I noticed they were selling homemade cinnamon rolls for $2.99, and I’m still kicking myself for not grabbing one to take home.
We were there during a snowstorm and had a brief moment of concern about getting back up the hill but the steady stream of trucks pulling in made it obvious this is a place people know, trust, and rely on. I had zero doubt that if we needed help, someone would’ve stepped in without hesitation.
This wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience. Places like this matter, and more people should know about it. We’ll absolutely be back.
Our waitress is a co-owner (I think) with her husband, who cooked our breakfast.
My husband was thrilled to have white rye toast! I was well- pleased with my more common whole wheat toast. We both ordered our eggs “over easy” and they were PERFECT. Whites were cooked all the way and the yolks were warmed through. We both ordered their “American potatoes”, which are fried potatoes. Crispy and not at all greasy. I got corned beef hash (also nicely crisped), while Joe ordered link sausage (patties were also available). Our waitress asked if we’d like ketchup. I asked if they had salsa. Why, yes, they do! She brought both! Although their salsa is not chunky, it is nicely thick and has great flavor.
Coffee? You betcha. Strong enough without being bitter. Sugar shaker on the table, half-and-half on offer.
LOTS of food, priced reasonably.
They don’t pass along card fees, so please pay with cash to help their bottom line.
We arrived shortly after they opened. They were moderately busy. The waitress had everything well under control. We’re both early risers, so the meal was brunch for us.
😉
If you’re looking for great food and friendly service, The Caboose is the way to go!
Mom and pops feel.
