Deleted my first review that RAVED about this place. On my second visit, we had to
seat ourselves, get a high chair and get the menus ourselves as well. We ordered tacos and waited well over 40 minutes. I ordered menudo as well and had to ask for all of the fixings as well as silverware. Service is terrible. Do not come here if you’re wanting to eat in a timely manner.

Accidentally discovered this place while driving by, looked at reviews, returned later with the fam.
Food was very, very good. We got three tacos (lingua, cabeza, and al pastor—they have maybe a dozen different options on tacos), chicken enchiladas verdes, and chicken strips and fries for the youngin’. Tacos and enchiladas were some of the best we’ve had in Lincoln—fresh and layered with flavor. In addition to the usual chips and salsa (actually not usual, as the chips were clearly homemade), they brought three sauces to the table for our food—red, green, and avocado—in squeeze bottles. All were tasty. Oddly, the server warned us that the red was “very spicy” and it was really not, however, the avocado caught us by surprise as it was by far the spiciest of the three.
I was even surprised at how good the chicken strips were, as most ethnic restaurants have a kid’s menu as an afterthought.
Service was fine. Efficient enough, not particularly friendly. I don’t love “over the top” aka fake-friendly service anyway, so that’s fine. Food came out in a perfectly reasonable amount of time—not slow, but also not too fast (bewared premade/turn-and-burn).
Atmosphere is nice. They put a bit of effort into the decor and it’s cute. There is the appropriate Latin music, but not too loud, just how this old man likes it.
I’ve told a couple of fellow Mexican food lovers about El Alteno, and we will be back to try some other offerings!

We went early to beat the dinner rush little did we know we would be waiting for 55 minutes for our dinner. Once we got our dinner, we had no Silverware we had to physically get up and find our waitress to get silverware. We saw two waitresses for the entire restaurant and we saw our waitress only two times we had to ask for everything that we needed unfortunately. We will not be going back.

Found multiple bones in my chicken chimichanga while eating it. The queso has a very weird flavor to it. Not at all anything that I’ve ever had. Got chips and salsa and they put the salsa in side the bag sideways with the chips and it spilt everywhere!
