I visited Tommy’s Pizza Palace with some friends and had a nice experience! The owner was very friendly and attentive, and the pizza and dishes we shared were good. I don’t often have Greek pizza, so it was a nice change, and I felt they did it well! I love the classic pizza parlor vibes and how unchanged it seemed to be. Special shout-out on the cold cut grinder, which was really tasty!

I ordered up a pickup order through Slice. I ordered a medium buffalo chicken pizza for a total of almost $30, which is a pretty steep price for a 14 inch pizza even when compared to the overpriced places on Main Street in Middletown. The description for my pizza on Slice said it included blue cheese (photograph of menu included.) When I went to pick up the pizza, I was met by an annoyed sounding working rolling her eyes telling me “we will be with you in a minute”. Being stressed/rushed is understandable, but the place was empty so I’m not sure what the attitude was related to. Maybe they had a lot of takeout orders for dinner rush, not sure. After waiting a bit in the (empty) restaurant, my pizza was handed to me. At which time they tried to tell me blue cheese wasn’t included and wanted to shake more money out of me for it. No thank you. I’m not paying extra for an item listed on your menu as included…especially when your pizza is already overpriced as it is. Beyond the false advertisement on the menu, the pizza was…mediocre and small. The crust and cheese were on the border between okay and good. However, the chicken was an inedible level of dry. Had one slice and that was enough for me. The trash bin can have the rest.

Overall, definitely won’t be going back here. For the price, you can get something significantly better without being nickled and dimed every step of the way. Sad because I heard good things about this place too.

Despite my low rating, I am attempting as a long-term customer to be as fair in this review as possible, and cover both the upsides and downsides of this place based on my own experience. I can’t speak for anyone else. I almost always order, and have only rarely dined in the actual restaurant. I don’t know for sure what goes on in management, and would advise my review be taken with a grain of salt. I can share only what I’ve seen and what I can guess is happening based on it.

Over the long time I’ve lived in Portland, I’ve watched this restaurant decline. It used to be THE place to get pizza in town since Russo’s closed all those years ago.

However, recently they appear to have moved to a nonsensical cooking methodology, whereby instead of having a dedicated cook or cooks so that food quality is consistent, they simply have whoever is available cook.

This leads to the place seemingly playing Russian Roulette with your food quality. You never know whether your food is going to be of decent quality, or whether it’s going to end up tasting like flavored cardboard (which it usually does, at least with my orders).

Their wait staff appears to cycle out so quickly that it’s become common practice to see a new person taking your order every week or so, and turnover appears high.

And after *two years*, they still can’t seem to hire a delivery driver. Everything has to either be eat in or pick-up. For handicapped people or those that otherwise can’t get to the place, you’re S.O.L. unless you want to further risk food quality drop by ordering from a delivery app.

And then there’s the problem of being left on hold. The service is mildly frustrating at normal times, and ATROCIOUS when they’re busy. Oftentimes, I have been left on hold for up to ten minutes, sometimes with them not even getting back to me at all.

On the plus side they’re at least friendly and the restaurant is clean and has a good atmosphere, so I imagine that all of these problems with service and food quality are due to hard financial times and inexperienced staff rather than any sort of malice.

I do get the impression they’re trying their best. Even so, I find it hard to want to order from here anymore. I’ve held out hope things will improve. But they don’t seem to be.

Absolutely LOVE their antipasto, especially with their house made dressing! I know live 180 miles away but wanted to stop in for an antipasto and also bought some salad dressings to go, and drove them home for the family to enjoy….. I have been going to Tommy’s since I was a little girl and remember the sut down Space Invaders game

Not bad the chicken is good. The pizza is a little hot. My friend really liked his gluten-free pizza because it tasted like pizza.

I absolutely love this place! I used to live in Portland and have since moved out of town. I travel back to Portland just for the delicious chicken! The grilled chicken salad is our favorite, and the house dressing is SO yummy. The portion size of the large salad is perfect for sharing and the price is quite reasonable. The staff is friendly and has never messed up our order! We also love that the chef is so grateful every time we mention how much we love the chicken. It’s juicy, and seasoned just right. You will not be disappointed, delicious food and great staff.

Great greek style pizza! I ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza and it was amazing. There was plenty of sauce and cheese and the sausage is wonderful. The crust had lots of flavor too! I also got some wings and loved them. They gave me plenty of blue cheese which could be homemade (not sure)either way, it’s SO GOOD.

**edited to add: After reading countless reviews on the antipasto and house made dressing I had to try it. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The dressing is simply delectable and the salad was huge!

My husband and I love Tommy’s! My mother- in- law and her family are all from Italy and make phenomenal homemade pies, so Tommy’s had some seriously high standards to meet with us. Tommy’s exceeded those standards, and we order from there almost every Friday now. Tommy’s sauce is delicious- not too sweet- and so flavorful. I also love that they are very generous with the cheese (my favorite part). Our son, without fail, gets the wings, but begs me to save him the crust, which he says is the best crust around (again- he has high standards considering his Nonna makes her pizza, dough and sauce from scratch). You just can’t beat a family owned business who makes great food and cares deeply about their community. Keep up the great work, Tommy’s!!
