Our server was Madison, who was extremely knowledgeable about everything from drinks to the food. She gave phenomenal choices, which did not disappoint.
The BIGGEST SHOCK: please view the bathrooms! The ONLY comparable cleaner bathroom happens to be their sister establishment. When I say clean..I mean CLEAN. I was extremely shocked; both women’s and men’s bathroom. They look like a 5 star latrine.
The food and drinks were simply amazing. There are VERY few places in Lafayette that will compare to Mercy Kitchen. I will be a regular. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I would give more than 5 stars if I could.
The only issues we’ve experienced were with occasional slow service a few times. We asked for some time to order and to just relax and then it was difficult to track down our waiter when we were ready. I also went here for a book club once, and it was a little loud. (I knew it would be loud but just a heads up for others who want a more quiet restaurant for dinner.)
When we arrived, things only got worse. Our server, Hailey, did not greet us at all. No hello, no introduction, nothing. From the moment we sat down, Hailey seemed annoyed and frustrated. Hailey put plates down roughly, almost throwing them on the table, and never said you are welcome when we thanked her. When we asked Hailey for refills, she would roll her eyes. Hailey attitude was cold and unprofessional the entire night.
Hailey also tried to prevent us from ordering drinks at all. Hailey claimed that when I called to make the reservation, I said we would not be consuming alcohol and that this was the only reason they agreed to take a party our size. That was not true. Eventually, everyone at the table asked for a drink, so Hailey had no choice but to serve us, but the way Hailey handled it felt accusatory and uncomfortable.
We were seated right next to the kitchen and could clearly hear the kitchen staff talking badly about us, which was extremely uncomfortable and disrespectful. We were polite, patient, and kind from the beginning, yet Hailey continued to treat us like an inconvenience.
I understand how stressful working in a restaurant can be, and I try to be understanding. However, Hailey face did not show stress. It fully showed hate. Hailey made us feel unwanted and uncomfortable the entire time.
I will say the food was good, which is the only positive part of this experience.
This is just my personal experience, and I am someone who usually takes time to write reviews, but I felt this needed to be shared. I can assure you that every single person in our group left very angry and upset because of the horrible service, mainly because of Hailey behavior.
This was supposed to be a birthday celebration, and instead it was disappointing and frustrating. If you want a good experience, I strongly recommend not sitting in Hailey section. This experience did not match the good things I had heard about this restaurant at all.
The atmosphere was quirky yet inviting and there is plenty to look at. The food was delicious. They have low carb options of that’s your thing.
My boyfriend, my young daughter, and I joined a birthday party here, and from the moment we walked in, we felt unwelcome. No one greeted us at the door. We had to find our table ourselves, and once seated at the end of the table, we were completely ignored. Our server, Hailey, never came over to greet us, offer drinks, or ask if my daughter needed a highchair. After waiting roughly 20 minutes, I had to personally ask for drinks and request a highchair for my child — basic service that should be automatic.
Throughout the entire night, Hailey was consistently rude, dismissive, and inattentive to the entire party. She did not check on us, did not offer refills, and spoke to us with a harsh and unpleasant tone from start to finish. Our entire group consists of young adults who are very experienced in the food service industry, so we are understanding, patient, and respectful customers. That said, this was hands down the worst restaurant experience any of us have ever had.
To make matters even worse, at one point one of the cooks made an insulting remark toward the birthday girl, which was completely unprofessional and incredibly inappropriate. No guest — especially someone celebrating a birthday — should ever be spoken to that way. The birthday girl wasn’t even acknowledged with a simple “happy birthday.”
Toward the end of the evening, I politely asked Hailey if the restaurant offered desserts and whether there was anything special done for birthdays. I wasn’t aware the kitchen had closed, and I was not attempting to order. Instead of answering the question respectfully, Hailey responded in an extremely rude tone with, “The kitchen is closed.” When I clarified that I was only asking about dessert options, her attitude remained dismissive. The issue was never the kitchen being closed — it was the lack of basic courtesy and respect.
This poor experience actually started before we even arrived. When the birthday girl called to make the reservation, the staff member on the phone sounded irritated and immediately emphasized that the kitchen and restaurant closed at 9:00, with no effort to be welcoming or accommodating. That negative tone carried through the entire night.
At the end of the evening, the lights were turned on while we were still seated — before I had even received my check — making us feel rushed out and disrespected.
Gratuity was added to our checks. Under normal circumstances, we would have tipped generously, but had gratuity not been required, I would not have left a tip at all — something I have never done at any establishment before. That is how poor this service truly was.
I don’t know whether this behavior reflects poor management, unhappy employees, or a lack of training, but we were nothing but respectful and patient all evening. There was absolutely no reason for us — or especially the birthday guest — to be treated this way.
At this point, I would strongly recommend not sitting in Hailey’s section, and I sincerely hope the owners of Mercy Kitchen take this feedback seriously and address these issues immediately. No guest should ever leave feeling this disrespected.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Mercy Kitchen.
In this picture I included is my daughter. THIS is the little girl who was never offered a drink or a highchair, OR something to eat 🙂
