Valentine’s Day dinner at Fat Tuna in Waterford CT was a great mix of seafood, steakhouse classics, and a relaxed upscale vibe.
The meal started with fresh bread service followed by a well composed cheese and fruit board with candied pecans that was perfect for sharing. The lobster bisque was outstanding, rich, smooth, and full of deep seafood flavor with tender lobster pieces throughout. A classic shrimp cocktail served over ice added a clean and refreshing start.
For entrées, we enjoyed a filet mignon with lobster that delivered a traditional surf and turf experience. The steak had a beautiful sear and was cooked to a warm pink center. The roasted chicken with potatoes and greens was comforting and well balanced, bringing a nice contrast to the richness of the seafood and steak.
Even the fries were hot, crisp, and perfectly salted. We finished the evening with cappuccino, a smooth and relaxing way to end a cozy winter Valentine’s dinner.
Fat Tuna offers a welcoming Waterford seafood restaurant experience that feels special without being overly formal. Great lobster bisque, classic surf and turf, and one of the coziest Valentine’s dinner spots in Waterford.

This lobster roll…..omgggg it is deliciousssss. Heavenly.
The amount of butter the raw oysters were very yummy.
This was my first time trying raw clams so I can’t have too much an opinion on that but they were good. The only thing is that the coleslaw was not my favorite. Not creamy enough. But the fries? So good. Can’t go wrong with a good fry! Amazing and fast service. I definitely recommend. Just know that the lobster rolls is a bit pricey

We visit family from out of state and make a point to eat here every trip.
We were too early for dinner menu but had plenty of choices on the lunch menu.
The mini bouillabaisse was exceptional!
And I love the tile in the women’s bathroom. Love the aqua penny tile with black grout.

A solid 3.5 ⭐️ Fat Tuna gets a lot of hype and so our expectations may have been too high. It’s definitely a beautiful setup with the patio seating and the decor inside, but service and the food was lacking, unfortunately. The lobster ravioli is very small considering its price (I was hoping my 2 kids could share it, but it was only 5 pieces). The bouillabaisse was actually good. I wanted to love this place, but it just fell a bit short.

We are here on a Wednesday evening. There were relatively few customers. We were seated immediately, and our server, Sam, was prompt with menus and any requests we might have for clarification. There was an extensive menu of specials, but we were more inclined to try items from the regular menu. We started with the crab cakes, which had so much crab, that they were held together by a prayer. Perfectly cooked, served with a mild kimchi. Very pleasant. We also had the General Tso’s shrimp. Perfectly cooked, lightly breaded and fried, seasoned with ginger, scallion, peppers, and delicious. For our main courses, I chose the Seafood Newberg. This dish is an old test of the abilities of the chef to showcase classic technique. The vol au vent pastry was properly baked. The Newberg sauce had a perfectly balanced flavor. The scallops were perfectly tender, as were the huge shrimp. For the uninitiated, this dish is probably the greatest food cost in a restaurant, and here, they cut no corners. I will dream about this tonight as I salivate while reminiscing. My wife had the fisherman’s platter. Perfect oil temperature and ideal breading results in perfectly cooked food. While not necessarily gourmet, truly a delight given the quality of execution. We took a tiramisu to go. Amazingly well presented in the takeout container, and a wonderful late evening snack. I look forward to returning in the near future. Highly recommended.

Showed up later in the evening on a Sunday night. Beautiful inside and lovely deck and patio for outdoor seating overlooking the water and marina area.
Salads were tasty, great wings, fisherman’s platter was enough for 5 of us to share.
That clam chowder wasn’t my favorite. Service was great and drinks were very good!

Although it was a rainy day when I was feeling famished for seafood, this little local gem of a seafood joint by the Niantic harbor area hit the spot. The baby calamari lightly cooked in bacon cream sauce was delicately made. The lobster salad was light but meaty. The local clams and oysters were delightful and the pistachio dark cherry cheesecake topped it all off. Would recommend to travelers going through the area.

We waited to come here as the initial reviews were uneven, but the food is great! Very well cooked and flavored. I held back a star because I don’t personally think the rice of the day was thought through so well. Coconut risotto is fine, but not a good flavor match for most items. The grilled mussels, salmon filet, and all the desserts were amazing though! The cocktails were wonderful as well.
The big issue for atmosphere is noise. The restaurant was busy, but not jam packed either. Despite that, my husband and I struggled to hear each other. That was a big downside.

There’s a few things I like about this place. After being greeted promptly by a friendly host, the first thing I noticed was how clean this entire restaurant is. Like, this place is spotless inside and out. We sat down outside for Sunday brunch, and the menu was really impressive. I’m reluctant to sound cliche but it was legit hard to choose what to eat. I ended up having the smoked salmon eggs benedict and no lie that was a 12 out of 10. The service was great too, our waitress was really nice and did a great job.
