Listed as one of the top burger places in DC, we were excited to try it—and it didn’t disappoint. The burgers were tasty, though I’d recommend ordering two or even three patties, as a single patty is quite small. Even the ladies at our table agreed one patty wasn’t enough.
The fries, chili, cheese, and fried sides were excellent and generous enough to share. The interior isn’t fancy, but it feels homey and comfortable, which adds to the experience. Another plus is that parking was widely available, making the visit easy and stress-free.

I’ve been to Hill East twice and I had a great experience both times!! The service is great, the vibes are spectacular, everyone is super nice and welcoming and the burgers are phenomenal!!! I’d also like to add – I’m loving their pop up game! They have really great pop ups here and you get to try unique and DELICIOUS collaborations – today I got to enjoy the Shababi / Chef Marcel pop up and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

Showed up here the night a guest chef was making the specials. Had a lively philosophy discussion with the bartender. The burger didn’t make the photo, but was beefy and delicious. Strangely not much black pepper. The patty had an intriguing almost sweet flavor. Would have preferred a pepper snap as I believe that fresh black pepper is an underrated spice. Cool vibe. I feel lucky that I stumbled in.

Newest DC discovery & we already went twice in a week! It is super cozy in HEB, love the QR code ordering & the music playlist.
The french fries are something we both dream about..just so good with an amazing array of sauce options! The Puebla burger & Tomball, TX were both amazing & we would order both (plus the chicken nugs) again in a heartbeat!
Last night we went for Reuben night & YUM. The reuben sandwich & the pastrami sandwich were both amazing. Great, quick service all around as well!
Our favorite place we’ve been to in a while!

Go-to weeknight food spot at Potomac yards. Love the house made thick curly fries.

Beer selection is not excellent, but the cocktails are nice and more than make up for it. But , as the name implies, the food is that start.

Hill East Burger is a hidden gem. The smoked flavor really sets their burgers apart—you get that juicy, beefy bite with a touch of char that feels almost like BBQ and burger in one. The classic cheeseburger was spot-on, and the specialty burgers have fun twists without going overboard. Fries were hot, crispy, and perfectly salted, and the house sauces are worth dipping everything into. It’s a cozy, no-frills spot that delivers serious flavor.

Got 1/2 price burgers here on Tuesday which made the meal pretty affordable, their burgers are small smash burgers but very tasty, crispy, juicy. Got the OK burger and Puebla, both were good and the sauces make them. Also the curly fries were fire, they even have their own soft serve drinks. Really nice overall vibe and good food

Hill East Burger makes one of the best burgers I have ever had. The smash burgers are flavorful and fresh. The curly fries are nearly perfect as a French fry. The service is friendly. The restaurant is small, but a fun place to eat.

Saw this on @big_schlims_tastetest page and had to try it out. Had the limited time big schlim burger, and it is an official stamp. With the half and half, you can add the liquor of your choice. You can get a tray of sauces to sample, and that goes perfectly with fries. The winner was the banana Foster bread pudding. Chef kiss .

Update! Hill East Burger is definitely worth the visit. The food was piping hot this time, and they added several gluten free options (GF bun).

I’d still encourage a gluten free French fry, but I get the curly-ish fries are unique. The price point on the appetizers is really reasonable for what you get – especially the fries. We actually ended up trying a few appetizers and splitting the larger burger it was more price effective. The pork Rinds were average – I know it goes with the theme but a solid chip – something a little more salty and less porky- would be great. The cheese was awesome.

I actually think the double burger was bigger this time. It was temp hot and juicy.

The cocktails (while a bit pricy) we’re tasty. We didn’t love that they’re pre made, but appreciate when alcohol comes fast and understandable for the size of the bar.

They are still charging 20% service fee on the check – stay conscious !

Old review:

Full disclosure- we live nearby so really want this place to succeed but have to be honest. It’s a good neighborhood spot, but there are needed Improvements:

(1) Hotter food – my cheese was barely melted. My partners was warm-ish.

(2) any side that’s gluten free – ideally Fries but another side without gluten would be nice.

(3) price. Sorry but over $20 (20% service fee + 20% tip) for a burger, no fries. The burger is good but not that good. The competition (shall not be named but in very close proximity) has a delicious burger and fries for $20, and they have a Gluten Free Bun.

We shall try it again because we really want to love this place. But charging so much for mediocre food is not OK.
