First time eating here. It was fabulous. The Thai dumplings were delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed the Massaman curry, just the right amount of heat and wonderful flavors.

I have visited for dine-in many times when I lived in Roanoke several year ago. It has went downhill from previous experiences. When we arrived we were seated immediately with no wait, and I quickly learned why.

Soda was $3.50 for a small bottle with no refills. Not sure why they don’t have a fountain machine for a place that has been well established. I opted for the tea that was like pure sugar and had to get some unsweet to balance it out.

We ordered the cream cheese crab rangoons. They were a decent size and we got five for $9.95. They don’t serve with the traditional sweet and sour sauce but they likely the only decent part of the meal.

We ordered the California roll for appetizer. The avocado was brown. So either it was made in advance and turned or they knowingly put brown avocado in the sushi. It really had Kroger sushi vibes and not that of a freshly made sushi bar.

We dined in on a Saturday dinner. The menu has egg drop and hot and sour soup listed, but Christine our server said they only make the miso soup on the weekend.

For the main course we ordered General Tso’s chicken and orange chicken. The chicken was frozen and clearly not battered there. It was the consistency of the frozen chicken that has more batter than chicken and for sure a Sysco foods special. The orange sauce was very bland and only had subtle hints of citrus. For sure out of a jar and not something made in house. Our server mentioned that it was fried earlier in the day and then heated before being served. The outside was only lukewarm, but the chicken inside was cold. There were three pieces of what seemed like boiled broccoli that were basically raw, but perhaps dipped in something hot before being plated.

We ordered fried rice. We got white rice for one and a dirty brown rice for the other and were told that was what they had left available. The brown rice was just that a dirty brown rice, and nothing like a traditional fried rice.

The dinner portions did not come with a soup or salad option, and we were told that was only available during lunch. $18.00 for some frozen chicken seemed steep to me, but we were committed at that point.

Our server came around and inquired as to how the meal was hoping for a positive response. I flat out told her to be quite honest it absolutely sucked. Christine explained that they had some help in the kitchen that recently came to America and may not quite know the recipes yet. We inquired on the chicken and she said that yes they bread it there in the kitchen with ‘the stuff’ and then deep fry it. The more questions we asked the less English she spoke and it dwindled down to a big smile and ‘uh huh’ for the replies.

Oddly enough she pointed to a woman wearing a tight pink dress stating that she was the owner and was in the back cooking that night. It was clear that she was more concerned about visiting with a table in the corner than focusing on the food. So much so that she went to the bar and grabbed a round of shots for everyone including herself. It became clear that her priority was socializing and not providing a dinner service for those outside of the party table. I’m pretty sure that violates her ABC license.

Pictures attached of the food and references above.

Vast menu of Asian food options from Thai to sushi to Chinese. Quiet interior area with plenty of seating and relatively prompt service. Heavy sauce on the Pad Thai and a weaker sauce for the satay chicken but overall a solid lunch and dinner place serving generous portions in Roanoke.

We so enjoyed our lunch at Taste of Asia. We really like the new lunch menu. My husband got the Pepper beef and I got the Cashew nut chicken. Last time I got the Gai Yang and everything was delicious then and now. The service was prompt and amazing. They remembered the drinks we ordered from the time before, and asked if we would like that again. We were both very impressed. I couldn’t have nicer things to say about Evelyn the owner, she is so happy and delightful and really cares about her customer service and food quality. And you can really tell that in the finished product. I would give them 10 stars if I could! Can’t wait to come back again.

Had an excellent late lunch today! Whenever I try a new Thai place, I always try their Chicken Satay & Tom Yum soup. They blew me away!! The satay came with the best peanut sauce I’ve ever had at a Thai place! The service was speedy and wonderful. Will definitely be returning 🙂

Placed a takeout order for dinner. I ordered the pad thai with tofu, my husband ordered general tso chicken and Crab Rangoon. We shared a sushi roll as well. The sushi was honestly the hit and I would come back and order sushi here again. The pad thai I would say was more quantity over quality, the amount of noodles they managed to fit in one container was crazy! What really threw me off was the tofu, they had fried it and idk what went wrong but it just tasted like soggy piles of grease. I literally couldn’t eat it and had to pick them out. Again the quantity of noodles was huge, but the flavor felt thinly spread across the dish. Would come back for the sushi, and my husband said his dish was fine as well, just wouldn’t order the thai options.

Fantastic birthday dinner for my 16 year old! First time visiting and it was amazing. Huge portions, delicious food, and the staff is one of the nicest in the City. Very kid friendly entrees and lots of options for everyone.

We have been here three different occasions and consistently this gem of a restaurant has exceeded our expectations for quality, customer service, atmosphere, cleanliness and cost. They have such a wide selection of traditional and Americanized entrees. Only thing missing is traditional handmade dim sum. One can dream right?

I’m only reviewing the food as my order was take out. My fiance and I ordered the tom yum noodles with chicken and the wonton soup. The tom yum soup wasn’t bad however, the broth was too sweet. There was also a tiny amount of chicken included in the portion. Now for the wonton soup, the broth was delicious, but the wontons were cooked to absolute death. So overcooked that they disintegrated into a gelatinous pool whenever put into my mouth, pretty much making the dumplings inedible. This place continues to remind me why I choose literally any other option in Roanoke over them, especially at the price point.

I’ve never had a bad experience with/at Taste of Asia – I actually wish I could eat here more often to more fully explore their very extensive menu, which is broken down into three sections: Thai, Japanese, and Chinese. So far my experiences here have stemmed mainly from the Thai menu, with an occasional starter or add-on from the Japanese section. Tonight (01-14-21) was no different, as we started with the edamame, and then my date moved onto a small dish Thai tofu vegetable soup, and a vegetable roll from the sushi menu. I went with the N10, a Thai beef & noodle soup akin to Pho, but with a beef broth instead of a bone broth – it’s a formidable bowl of soup. I look forward to many more visits to Taste of Asia.
