Awesome outdoorsy ambience and incredible service. Gilbert gave my friends a tour in his kitchen which was a nice treat. Thanks Gilbert!
I brought my 12 out of town friends here and they loved it!
Only complaints:
The winery and restaurant are separate so you have to order from both places which is inconvenient. I’m fully vegetarian so this place is obviously not ideal for me I had two options pasta or salad. I ordered the truffle pasta.. not sure why it came with potato chips.

The overall experience was great and before I start this review, let me just say I very much enjoy the Fat Pastor’s dedication and presence in the community, enriching Yakima’s food scene. Service was good, as usual and of course J Bell wines were amazing. The problem came in the form of NaCL, also known as salt. I had the tenderloin, my parents the salmon and wife pasta. All dishes suffered from the same, too much salt! At first, I though it was only me having a hard time, but I soon realized my whole table was struggling. My meat was inedible, I could not taste the meat at all. My tongue was chafed from the excess seasoning. I plowed through it anyway, but the experience was the worst I ever had. I went back and forth between saying something and not. In the end I didn’t. How do you return 4 dishes to a guy you admire? I didn’t have the courage. Sorry. I was there for a good time, not an argument.
So, if you guys are reading this, please keep low on the old sodium chloride, that’s what salt shakers are for. Thanks !

The setting starts the experience – nestled in a vineyard with glistening patio lights hung from trees and a warm fire roaring in a pit.

The wine menu comes from one of the top wineries in famed Yakima County wine country. Sipping on a 2015 soft Cabernet – we chose the black angus tenderloin and a special offering of fire roasted tomahawk veal chop.

All of the dishes are cooked in a searing wood fired oven – reaching temperatures nearing 1000* F.

The wood fired crust perfectly compliments the medium rare buttery veal over perfectly seasoned potatoes and bright green asparagus with just the right crunch.

To end the meal we had a decadent flourless chocolate cake with smooth whipped cream and hazelnut crunch.

If you have a special occasion – or just want to taste the top tier of dining in Washington state…make the trip!

Incredible food, but it took over an hour to come out. They made up for it by bringing us free bread about 45 minutes in, by explaining it was the first busy night of the season, and by giving us a price discount, but by the time the food came I had a bad stomach ache and had lost my excitement for the place. Perhaps covid has complicated things, but having to order wine and food separately and then not knowing who to ask about the status of your order is frustrating. Also, the plates were disposable and my knife easily put a hole in it. For such a high-end (and expensive!) restaurant I would expect them to have figured out how to give good service and to have good-quality dishes. They could probably streamline the ordering system and just figure out what percentage goes to the winery and what goes to the restaurant.

Better than expected ! one of the few more elevated dining experiences in the area. We didn’t know it was an outdoor, “pop up” spot next to a winery but this turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Fantastic and friendly service. BYOB from J. Bell Winery a huge plus. Really excellent value and experience for the money. Wish they were open more days!

What a disappointment. Took my wife to Il Grasso for her birthday after one of my friends advertised this place on few occasions. We each ordered halibut and couldn’t believe what they have served us. Little over an inch wide by 6 inch piece of dry fish (literally a fish strip). It was dry, overcooked. If you are running out of food it is ok to tell the customer that you are OUT instead trying to serve something like this. Worst part is that you pay while ordering and have to tip right there on the spot before you even see or try your food so I left the tip for something that wasn’t even worth the price I have paid. $90. I have heard that steaks could be good but how do you talk yourself into going back after experience like this.

Chef Shawn,

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon dining experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our meal today at your new IL Grasso location at the JB Bell Winery.

The antipasti platter was the perfect combination of selections and it was prepared with the freshest of ingredients and flavors.

We really enjoyed the Pasta del Giorno main course, which was obviously created and prepared with the utmost attention to detail.

We were also very pleased with our wine selection because we chose to pair our great dining experience with an excellent bottle of the Simple Pleasures of Life red wine. One of many great options on their extensive wine menu.

Your desire to provide excellent customer service and to surpass the expectations of your guests was apparent.

Thank you again.

Lovely outdoor garden space. Food cooked outside pizza oven style. Lots of variety on the charcuterie plate. Nice duck with carrot purée. Salmon sando had nicely cooked fish but way to much focaccia. Drinks sourced from J Bells cellars include wine by glass & beer

Fantastic choice for a Sunday evening. The food, atmosphere, staff, & the chefs! 5 + stars for all of the above. The focaccia bread, a must order, just do it. The salmon, though simple with ingredients, packed so much depth & delicious flavor, also was cooked to perfection (medium rare). Our salad had many ingredients & a spicy vinaigrette that was so tasty! You cannot forget dessert – vanilla panna cotta with caramel popcorn, yum! And a perfect way to end the meal. And this all came out of an outdoor kitchen with a wood fire oven…. WOW!
Every staff member we interacted with, which were the chefs, the owners, etc was so pleasant and fun!
I never knew I would have a destination in Zillah that had amazing food!

I’ve gone to Il Grasso a couple times now. And each time it is amazing! The food is an experience. Easily one of, if not the, best restaurants in the area. Dare I say all of Washington? I highly recommend! No one leaves disappointed. The menu changes regularly. I am a fairly routine eater except here. I will eat anything these chefs create!
