I stopped by hungry on my way through Machias, Maine and decided to try Mason’s.
There is plenty of parking and the restaurant entrance has a ramp.
I started off with the only draft lager, the Midnight Train. It was dark and had a coffee taste which is not my thing. I had asked the waitress if she had ever tried it and she had not, but did offer a taste first which I declined.
There is a huge wrap around bar or wooden tables to dine in. Casual ambience. Restrooms were very clean.
I had the fish and chips and that came out quickly. The house made tarter was very good, along with the coleslaw.
I ordered a side of cowboy beans and they were flavorful and hearty. Really delicious. However, it is a huge portion for a side (maybe the size should be specified or marked as a sharable) and there was no price listed on the menu.
The price was $10, pretty steep for a side in my opinion (which I learned only after getting the check).
I decided to take the beans home with a hot dog to go, and was told the dog comes with a side as well; apparently you cannot just get a dog alone! So that was $8 for a dog and a sad portion of kraut that was just ok.
The bill came to $45.90 and I gave the waitress $60 and she asked, “do you want your change?” Seems she expected a huge tip based on minimal service. I politely said “yes, please.”
My change was $14.10. She brought back $14 but not the 10 cents. Seems like a dumb thing to complain about, but this is not right. Not giving people the correct change is never ok and it works in the restaurants favor and screws the customer and based on that fact alone, I would not recommend and don’t plan to return.

*management did reach out to me regarding my complaints and that is much appreciated and promising

I had one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time at Mason’s Brewing Company Down East. The bun was perfectly toasted and soft, the patty juicy, and the fresh coleslaw on top added just the right crunch and creaminess. The fries were spot-on—crispy outside, soft inside, and full of flavor.

But the real highlight was the Bloody Mary sauce. That sauce is on another level: bold, tangy, and incredibly tasty. It adds a unique kick that makes the entire plate unforgettable.

Service was just as impressive. Our waitress was excellent—attentive, friendly, and always checking on us at the perfect moments. She really made the experience even better.

If you’re anywhere near the area, this spot is absolutely worth stopping by. Highly recommended.

I am so happy this place opened!! We vacation at a camp in Harrington and to have a brewery this close is fantastic. The beers were awesome and the food was great!! I look forward to visiting again next year. I hope they get more shirts in stock. I really wanted some but the ones I wanted were out. But thats not even something to complain about. Thanks for the great place and again we really cannot wait to come back

We frequent Masons often. The food is amazing and I love the rotating specials and happy hour options. Great selection of brews and seasonal cocktails. We’ve tried many things off the menu, from wings, sandwiches and pizza, it’s all delicious. Great atmosphere, service is friendly, and if something you ordered isn’t right (we had undercooked chicken wings once) they make it right. The hand cut fries are amazing!

Definitely a recommended stop in the Machias area!

We met Sara the bartender and she gave us a few tastings of beer. I do not like coffee and ended up with PB Stout as it has a mild coffee after taste and smell. She recommended the Once Upon A Time in the West pie and it was a 10 out of 10. Definitely recommend this place for beer and pizza. FYI – try a little honey on your pie (aka Colorado style)!

Busy for lunch on a Sunday. Food was exceptional, staff were very busy. I had a huge Chef Salad that was fresh and well prepared. Took a pizza home with me.

Welcoming place, friendly folks. Good selection of craft beers (had the Hefeweizen) and cocktails. Ordered lunch here with family and friends in the recently renovated restaurant from the regular and the lobster menu, including the teryaki tofu (very good) and crispy cauliflower (yum) for starters, and lobster nachos, lobster bruschetta and the BLT, all very nicely presented and thoroughly enjoyable. Would highly recommend it.

My wife and I always stop at local breweries as we explore an area. Mason’s isn’t just a brewery though, as they have a good selection of amazing food. Like seriously, it’s not just “pub food.” It is awesome, well made, well thought out food. We had cherry-bourbon-orange wings (who else makes those), and one of the pizzas. The pizza was basically gourmet. Did I mention they are actually a brewery and have beer too. The service was fantastic, the vibe was right, and it was a great time. Definitely going back before we leave the area.

Last couple times weve picked up from here they been losing their touch… first it was the salads got much smaller, and now they’ve forgotten to include key items on the entrees. Missing the au jus dipping sauce for the double dip burger. Had to drop a star. I dont normally come and update for every issue but when things consistently go down hill… anywho. Food is still delicious… just missing the mark on service and accuracy.

While their chorizo chili is a smidge on the sweet side the rest of their food that Ive tried is phenomenal. Cant get enough of the double dip burger. That au jus with onions and gruyere, is a dream to eat. Their pizza is top notch as well. The dough is super tasty and the cheesy bread thing they make with it is a must have… been here about 5 times and my only negative that i had is the chili comment… and thats only a matter of opinion!
