On our first visit we only stopped in the bar because we are vegan and one of us doesn’t eat gluten. It was the best bar experience we’ve ever had. Very creative and delicious drinks. The bartender, Devon, was open to answering our questions and we wound up having a great time learning about his life path to mixology, his creative approach to spirits and the supportive hospitality culture on Orcas. He also noted that the kitchen will flex to accommodate specific diets. The vegan/gf fried parsnip bar snack was really enjoyable. Our stop at Matia was a terrific launch to a practically perfect weekend on the island. We’ll definitely drink AND dine at Matia when we visit Orcas again.

We’ve been fortunate to eat at quite a few of the world’s 3 star/Pellegrino list restaurants and Matia is right up there with the best of them. The food was absolutely fantastic, showcasing regional and hyper local ingredients, with some gorgeous global wine pairings. The service was on point, but also friendly and relaxed. The vibe is cool and the bar space is dark and sexy. 10/10 will go again.

The bar menu is FANTASTIC, and of the three menus available in the place, it’s the least amazing. I came here the first time to witness their perfection in 2022, and have watched them elevate everything with each subsequent visit. I arrived with no reservation and waited for a solo seat at the bar, and wasn’t disappointed in the least.

Amazing service, good atmosphere — food and drinks need slightly more refinement and better execution to justify the price. Each drink and dish was either a bit too sweet, too salty, too bland, too one note, opposed to everything working in perfect harmony. Can tell they use good ingredients and try unique combos but just not totally there yet.

Good but nothing exceptional. Pork ragu rigatoni was mediocre. Prawn toast was pretty good but didn’t taste like prawn. Wine was amazing. Cocktails were interesting. My partner loved the clams although I thought they were a little flavorless. The baked potato ice cream was amazing! I’d come back just for that dessert.

we had the most phenomenal meal last year on the cooks side. as a chef by trade i enjoyed chatting with them about the wine pairings (best i’ve ever had) and the food- and the food was delicious. this year we opted for the bar side and had the worst service i think i’ve had anywhere; drinks arrived 20 minutes after we finished eating- 45 minutes after ordering. and at the end asked if we wanted to order dessert drinks? well- no…
the food was incredible as always. the chefs there are so very tuned in. drinks were not good.
if the apps are too small for one person to eat one, the size of them should be increased; it was weird to order and be told i should order two of each.
if you know the drinks in the bar are behind 40+ minutes, and you should know, consider offering your patrons complementary wine to sip with their meal- having room temp water with my food at a fine dining restaurant with a reservation.. and recieving them 20 minutes after we put our fork down should be an automatic comp.
is there nobody else in the establishment who could make a drink or paying attention to help expedite the bartender? i would never make this sort of review but at this price point these sort of things are very basic and expected- the service and experience is the product.
in the future, we’ll stick to hanging out with the BOH staff who took care of us incredibly well, were friendly, versed, and down to earth.

We had a phenomenal experience. The menu (which changes) is incredibly inventive (see sample menu posted). We were treated very well by our sever and all the staff. Our server had a masterful knowledge of the menu and answered our questions in a friendly and down to earth manner. The best way to enjoy the food is to order a number of plates and share. This is a high-end establishment best suited for couples or small groups of adults. We didn’t drink, but the bar is super cool looking. Great menu, great atmosphere, great staff, great service.

Fantastic evening to celebrate my wife and I’s wedding anniversary. Fizz, Cocktails, house salad, Washington State , vegetarian spaghetti and the local clams were outstanding. You must save room for the olive oil cake!! Service was spot on.

This was a very pleasant (almost entirely) vegetarian café. The food was exceptionally fresh, and usually locally prepared.
We stopped off looking for a light, flavorful lunch. The pickles were fresh and crunchy, the bread was great but not nearly as good as the tomato marmalade or local butter. We had salads, and they were both a mix of fresh, sweet, and savory.
The staff was both friendly and pretty quick with service.

One-of-a-kind dining experience in a candlelight dwelling with a modern look and feel. Beginning with a whiskey cocktail with hints of sage and spice, there is ample time to peruse the menu and ask questions. In pursuit of the tasting menu, I stayed for over two hours trying various well-paired local fall offerings from oysters, squash, beets, soup, mole, and more. The servers are kind and extremely knowledgeable. Flavor pairings were simultaneously unlike anything I’ve ever tried and highly reminiscent of old food memories. The kitchen is very capable, producing magic on a plate and presenting it in an artistic way. I hope to make it back here again someday soon!
