Excellent authentic Mexican! Jesus, Juana & Margarita always make sure we leave happy! And they love our friends we bring from Manhasset! Our favorite family owned and operated restaurant in Chula Vista.

The flavors were rich, the portions generous, and the service was friendly and fast. You can tell the food is made with care and traditional recipes. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, perfect for families or a quick bite. Highly recommended if you’re in San Diego and craving real Mexican food!

Ordered a Carne Asada burrito to go at 10:30 am Jan 15th, 2026. Ate it with the Red Salsa. 4 hours later my stomach was upset, followed by throwing up violently laying on the bathroom floor for a good 2 hours, followed by major pipe cleaning diarrhea! Painful experience
This review is to do the owner a favor & find a reason why I got food poisoning. Hadn’t eaten a thing that morning or after so I’m certain it was the burrito!

On a Sunday afternoon we tried to find a place that offers tamales. After calling multiple restaurants in Chula Vista, El Dorado said they have chicken tamales, even though this was not their normal menu item. We asked for a chicken tamale that was not spicy, and the owner said they had it, so we ordered 6 chicken tamales, 5 rolled tacos, and 2 slices of flan to go. The order came to a little under $40. The tamales had some kind of ground chicken inside and were spicy after all, but they were mediocre, and I would not recommend them (except on a Sunday). The rolled tacos were ok, and the flan was excellent. Overall a good experience for menu items that are not the restaurant’s speciality (seafood). I look forward to trying their bacon wrapped shrimp in the future.

El Dorado is one of my favorites out of the many excellent under-the-radar Chula Vista Mexican restaurants that need to be getting more love than they do.

They serve a fantastic “Shrimp Taco” owing mainly to their sizable shrimp, sweet and clean, battered and deep-fried until crispy. Slaw and white sauce on top are on-point and applied in reasonable ratios, and the red sauce from the salsa bar is pure fire and must be added. The “Fish Taco” is the same thing, but with fish instead of shrimp. It’s a decent fish taco, but it doesn’t work as well as the shrimp does.

What you must really get here, however, are the “Camarónes a la Diabla,” a dish consisting of taut prawns in a spicy, rich, and garlicky sauce of roasted tomatoes and chipotle peppers. In San Diego, I have never eaten a superior version of this coastal classic than what is served at El Dorado with rice, refried beans, and fresh avocado to take off some of the fiery bite.

I want you to love this place, so I must manage expectations appropriately: El Dorado is a low-key and quiet “mom ‘n pop” restaurant in a small strip mall, probably more ideal for lunch than dinner.

Omg. Worst rolled tacos ever. Is it the guacamole? Is it they fry the heck out of them? Hard like a brick. And beans on the carne asada fries with no guacamole? I’m so sad bc I had high expectations from the reviews. My bad. Hopefully my review will save SOMEONE.
