I originally came for what used to be next door, glad I “settled” and found a much more satisfying meal.
Today we were down in Rockville and he checked the GPS for closest Hangry Joe’s.
Found this location just a mile away. Parked right out front and noticed it had outdoor seating too. The inside is clean well lit and very spacious. The soda machine is well maintained as well.
Used the large tablet to order. Food came up quickly and correctly. My loaded fries chicken was one of the better ones I have had. Ryan enjoyed his chicken strips. And my request for extra jalapenos was clearly honored.
Would definitely recommend if you are in the mood, or the area.
Hangry Joe’s markets itself as Nashville hot chicken. When I went to Nashville, I had my fair share of Nashville Hot Chicken sandwiches and none of them were as spicy or tasty as Hangry Joe’s on Rockville Pike. Is it Nashville hot chicken? I don’t know but it is darn good hot chicken!
First of all, the portions are huge! One sandwich will feed you for two meals. The chicken is giant and it’s covered with coleslaw and an orange sauce. I ordered the medium spice, which was plenty for an enjoyable spicy kick. Next time I’ll get the hot chicken because I like my food spicy. They have a spice level above that but it probably would be too spicy for an enjoyable experience. Maybe it would be fun for a dare.
The waffle fries were good and they had a seasoning sprinkled on them. I liked them very much. The sandwich and fries are served with a side of orange sauce, which was really delicious.
The restaurant itself is very clean and while there is a wait for your food, it is fine because it was hot and fresh when it was served.
I ordered the mild chicken sando combo and medium level wings. The sandwhich came out so aesthetically pleasing and the first bite revealed how fresh and juicy the filet was. I could not believe I was eating white meat (I usually complain that chicken sandwhiches should be made with dark thigh meat so they taste less dry). This is leagues above anything Popeyes, KFC, Wingstop Chic Fila, or anyone else has to offer. The spice blend on the chicken coating was exceptional, without being too overpowering. Mild level still offered a decent kick and the slaw / pickles and hangry sauce on the sandwich perfectly complimented each other. The ratio of all ingredients was perfect.
The medium wings had a perfect level of spice, which was a substantial increase from the mild sandwhich. They were also super juicy, crisp on the outside, and not greasy at all. You could tell they were never frozen, and made with the highest quality chicken.
The waffle fries were seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. They retained a crisp through out the meal and never got soggy.
I was surprised I never had to reach for ketchup like I usually do, because the hangry sauce offered the perfect sweetness, along with being a bit creamy and flavorful.
There is a Korean chicken place across the street (CM / Gama chicken) but I will no longer be going there as Hangry Joe’s just proved their superiority in every department. Wow!!!
The Sando had a HUGE breast and was juicy and flavorful, but the medium spice level for me was really a mild. I’ll be getting the hot next time. Not sure if I’m ready to tackle the highest heat level just yet, the waiver request scared me. Hahahaha.
