The only reason why I’ve marked them down is because of the strange atmosphere walking through an empty mall.
The food. They were delicious, true taste of home, and quite generous. However they tend to swim in fat/oil (sisig to be unsavory) The sisig was sadly not Kapampangan sisig which i truly missed) I missed a lot of Filipino dishes and many are not on the menu especially fish and vegetables. Available on the afternoon menu were mostly pork dishes, none of the healthier ones.
The service was undeniably Filipino warmth and smiles! Regardless of regional languages, i was happy to listen to Tagalog served with my food 🙂 I learned it may take a few minutes to prep or heat up the food so keep hangry at bay.
I may come back but only for fish and vegetables, some Filipino desserts maybe.
Mall atmosphere whichnwas kinda sad. Filipino warmth is like a steaming pot of soup on a dark, unwelcoming empty room.
Before I get into the food, I just wanted to note how friendly everyone was here. The customers shared some recommendations while the lady serving me also helped me pick out a couple dishes. The gentleman working was very personable as well and made me feel like family! He stopped by a few times to make sure everything was tasting good and was also great to chat with. I would recommend this place based on the customer service alone. It was a very happy and uplifting vibe that the workers were giving off which really made for a great experience.
Now, back to the food. Since it’s an á la carte menu, you get the opportunity to try a bunch of different dishes. I ordered the lechon kawali, pork adobo, dinuguan, lumpia shanghai, and a halo halo to go. Everything was delicious in its own way but the pork adobo was probably my favorite. The meat was ridiculously tender and flavorful. Although, the lechon kawali with the sauce they provided was pretty killer too. Everything was seasoned perfectly and nothing was too strong in terms of spice or flavors. The dinguan was new to me but a customer told me it was good so I gave it a shot. For anyone unfamiliar with this dish, it was meat I believe that is cooked in pork blood and other spices. I also got a cup of fried rice which paired well with the dinguan. The leftover stew could be topped over the rice too for some tasty bites. It might sound a little crazy if you aren’t an explorative eater, but I found it to be pretty good! Don’t knock it til you try it.
However, if it really came down to the star of the show, it would have to be the halo halo. Don’t get me wrong, I would come back for some pork adobo, but this halo halo was kind of life changing. It made me feel like I was in a game of Mario Kart if that makes any sense, specifically rainbow road. In other words there was a lot going on and I was trying to make sense of everything. None of these ingredients would’ve been anything special on their own, but when combined it was a masterpiece. You will have to stop in and try it to see what I’m talking about. This was the best treat I have had all year in terms of taste and uniqueness.
Anyways, I will eventually make my way back here in the future to try some other dishes they’re cooking up. If you haven’t been here yet, make sure to stop by and show this place some love! You will be happy that you experienced some Filipino comfort food.
The blood broth pork (dinuguan) isn’t the most photogenic dish, but it’s extremely flavorful with a hint of vinegar. Tasty!
The sour soup (sinigang) is good too.
