Driving through Chama we stopped at the Iron Rail Restaurant for a late lunch on our way to Pagosa Springs. The decor is vintage with outdoor seating. We were seated in 5 minutes and it wasn’t long before we were ready to order. Right away we noticed they were short staffed. It took 10 minutes for someone to approach our table. We finally ordered chips with dip and 2 raspberry ice teas. That took another 10 minutes before we received it. When the chips arrived we thought to order our main meal because of the slow service. Wife and I ordered separate Panini sandwiches. Those took about 25 minutes to arrive. The sandwiches were good, not great and certainly not worth the price we paid. Not a lot of meat and not Panini crispy. The people working there are very nice. We ordered hot fudge ice cream sundaes and those were good . I’m sure if we stopped in again we might have a better experience but a 75 minute stop for sandwiches at a restaurant was not what we had in mind while traveling through town. I do give credit to those working hard to accommodate all the patrons. They even had 2 little girls helping out with bringing plates out. Didn’t mind that. Always good to teach young children responsibility. 3 experience.

Such a beautiful and romantic place to stay! Perfect view of the train station with the mountains in the background. The MOST comfortable bed and fun, up to date showers that you don’t want to leave. We even had deer come right up to the balcony. I can’t wait to return

The food was a surprise: unexpectedly creative and of high quality. The enchiladas and mushroom ravioli were absolutely great! The lunch portion is on the smaller side, but the quality us great, made fresh to order, by someone who cares and understands flavors. The chocolate lava cake was freshly made, but a bit overcooked. But we loved the imaginative, creative, and high-quality main dishes.

It was enjoyable. We both defaulted to the Cobb Salad and were pleased. Nice size salad. Tortilla chips with a corn dip came as a table snack.
When you view the menu, you will be impressed by the liquor and beer options. Seems to be something they wanted to focus on. Lots of choices.

If you’re looking for a unique and memorable place to stay, look no further than the Iron Rail Inn. I’ve stayed twice now, once over the 4th of July weekend when just the bar and hotel were open, and again recently after the restaurant launched, and both experiences were outstanding.
The historic building has been beautifully renovated, preserving its vintage charm while adding the modern comforts you actually want when traveling. The beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, and every corner of the property feels thoughtfully designed.
The new restaurant serves excellent paninis, and the bar crafts creative, delicious cocktails that add to the experience. Whether you’re just passing through or planning a weekend getaway, the Iron Rail Inn delivers on every level. Highly recommend, this place is a hidden gem that won’t stay hidden long.

We came on opening day and ended up eating at the restaurant every day of our stay! By the end of the trip, we had tried every panini on the menu—and you truly can’t go wrong with any of them. The Conductor and The Train Robber are my top two favorites (I couldn’t pick just one!).
We loved the cozy, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff made the experience even better. The cocktail menu is just as impressive—fun, creative, and delicious. The mule is my personal favorite!
This place is truly one of a kind in Chama.

This place is just what Chama needed to elevate the food scene. The food and drinks were delicious. We visited the Iron Rail on its grand opening and everything we had was absolutely delicious. Hands down the best place in town to grab a bite. We will definitely be back.
