Social Profile:

Domo Sushi was forced to close its doors after waiting over three months for the landlord/management to address a long-overdue repair to the main sewage line, which had been broken for more than 20 years, along with other issues that directly affected our ability to safely serve the public. We deeply regret that we can no longer serve our loyal customers and are truly grateful for the support we’ve received from all of you, both under the previous owners and the new owners in 2024. My family and I used to frequent Domo Sushi pre-Covid. It was then ran and managed by Koreans — both the female server and male sushi chef were Koreans, and both were kind and hospitable. Sushi was good and the rolls were quite large. Setting has always been casual.

Fast forward to last night — our 2nd visit after the pandemic — and boy has the food quality changed for the WORST.

My mom ordered a shrimp tempura plate, which comes with a bowl of rice and a salad. Rather than have her meal come out as one full plate, her food came out staggered — meaning, first her salad arrived, then a bowl of rice appeared, and lastly, her plate of 5 pieces of shrimp tempura came out last.

WHY would you stagger a plate this way? Why not at the very least serve the tempura and rice TOGETHER? Or serve it bento style with rice & salad in their respective places, and the tempura with its bowl of tempura sauce in their respective spots? Though the shrimp tempura was good (perfectly crisped with a light batter), we thought this staggered service and plating was very bizarre.

I opted for a salmon nigiri sushi and yellowtail nigiri sushi along with a spicy scallop cut roll.

The sushi was OK — not the best quality of fish. I have been to Japan 3X and dined at fine sushi restaurants both there and here in the States, and the sushi at Domo was definitely nothing to write home about. It was mediocre at best.

Also, no respectable sushi joint would ever plate their nigiri sushi atop salad leaves — it makes for MESSY presentation. I do not want to pick up my sushi with chopsticks and have salad leaves stuck to my sushi. Unnecessary.

Lastly, my spicy scallop roll was a joke! The plating was TERRIBLE — the rolls were uneven and non-circular. In fact, they were not uniform in the slightest nor rolled tightly that my rolls FELL APART upon being picked up with chopsticks. WHO WANTS TO EAT BROKEN CUT ROLLS?!

When our server came by to ask us about our food and I explained the situation with my cut roll, he literally said this, “Oh, what’s funny is that the sushi chef didn’t make your roll. It was the owner’s son, a kid who’s training to make sushi.”

What?! Is this a play house? Are we in pretend sushi bar? What respectable restaurant of any cuisine has a little kid, who looked to be 6 or 7, actually handle food, let alone RAW FISH, and have what they make be served to the public?!?! How do I know his hands are even CLEAN?!

What about QUALITY CONTROL? I did NOT come in to dine and pay for sushi that was made by a kid who does not know sushi!!!

I don’t care if this kid is the owner’s son or if he was “training” — this was completely UNACCEPTABLE. Also, does he even legally have a work permit as protected under CA’s Child Labor Laws? I highly doubt it.

And interestingly, the owner sat at a table near us and overheard everything, but did not once come by to acknowledge nor apologize for such poor food. So not only does this restaurant LACK good quality sushi, but the owner herself LACKED professionalism and hospitality.

Our server offered us to take home a complimentary menu item of our choice, which we politely declined. We’re not about free food. We’re about GOOD QUALITY food.

Unless you want sushi that falls apart because it was made by a little kid, stay away from this place. Go get sushi from a local joint that respects you and stands by QUALITY food, presentation, and service.

Awful. First of all the waitress brought us delicious miso soup that we didn’t even ask for. Then the rolls came out so quickly that we didn’t even have time to complain about how long the food was taking. On top of all that, the food was way too fresh and exquisite for our taste. And the waitress even had the nerve to be friendly and accommodating, bringing us everything we asked for with a smile on her face. Absolutely horrific experience, and we can’t wait to have it again❤

The food was great! I had the tempura udon and it had perfectly crispy shrimp with a nice broth. The people running it were also very nice and the woman serving us was great! She talked with me and was pretty engaging as a business owner.

Take out poke, I was hungry and the one that I usually go was closed, I went here based on review expected good quality their, large poke was 18 so I expected good quality and portion but I was wrong portion not large more like medium compared to other places which is fine I still expected good quality when I had first bite I taste salt on all proteins and the quality was bad, seems like they try to keep their fish longer by putting lots of salts. I will never go back to this place again

I love this place. My family and I have been coming here since the 1st owner opened it. Always great sushi and my favorite has always been their perfectly crisp shrimp tempura that I’ll get in the Bento Box, the crunch roll, or as a separate order. The service is friendly, quick, and attentive. Must try if you haven’t done so yet.

I had a wonderful experience here! I ordered the teriyaki chicken and beef plate and the portions were extremely generous. The beef and chicken were both well flavored and tender, and I was very impressed especially with the quality of the rib eye beef. For the price, you definitely get a steal with the amount of food too! The dish came with a miso soup that was delicious as well. It is a family owned restaurant and they are so sweet !! Had a great experience and would definitely come back.
