I ran here to write a review because I FINALLY got to try Habiba’s!!! I had to take it to go since I was on my lunch break, but I will be back to sit down and try more Habiba was so sweet and personable; I’m usually nervous to try new foods that I’m unfamiliar with, but I instantly felt calm in her presence. I got the Doro Beyaynetu for one (2 chicken dishes w/ 3 vegetarian) with injera, and a veggie sambusa. She asked which options I wanted or if I wanted her to choose; I told her to choose and I’m down for whatever! Everything was fresh and hot with soooo much flavor and very filling. The injera is soft, almost like the inside of a fluffy pancake. If you’ve never had Ethiopian food and you’re nervous to try it, Habiba’s is your way to go! She’ll have a conversation with you to help you figure out the best dish to try (I heard her do this with the people in front of me). The cabbage and the stewed chicken were especially delicious. Thank you, Habiba

They were just taking the sambusas out of the oven so I tried a vegetable one. It was one of the best I’ve had. So crispy on the outside and the fillings was a bit spicy and the potatoes were nicely cooked. I’m definitely going to try more items next time.

If you have not travel yet to Ethiopia. You can practice by tasting the food offerings at Habiba Ethiopia restaurant in the Collective Mall in middle of the City. I am a vegetarian but they have meat dishes as well. I enjoy the time travel taste Ethiopia.

I’ve wanted to try Ethiopian food for a while now. While staying in downtown Syracuse on business, I saw that Habiba’s was closeby so I decided to give it a try.

Street parking along the main road was easy. There are tons od active parking meters in effect until 6pm. After that, parking there is free. I parked about half a block away.

The storefront is very plain and somewhat dark…it wasn’t immediately obvious that the place was open. I walked into a lovely greeting by the staff. It was practically empty, but I went at around 6:15 pm and I believe they close at 7 pm, so that may be expected.

The decor was lovely. The space was also very neat and clean with lots of tables, chairs and bench seating.

Not knowing what to order, the lovely server was able to suggest one of the platters which had a sampling of a few items. (About $18 for a sampler of 2 meats, 3 vegetables and injera.) The food came out in about 15 minutes. While I liked some items, more than others, I understood that my palate was not acustomed to the spices they used. I did like the heat of the food, I didn’t immediate love one of the main spices, which was present in all three vegetable dishes. As with many things…I figured this was an acquired taste.

Overall I had a great experience at Habiba’s. I hope to return and try some other items. The staff was very nice, patient and helpful.

I had never tried this food but it seemed like my soul has been longing for it all my life. I had the plate with each of the vegetarian dishes. 10/10 would repeat again. The person in charge who prepared my meal was also kind and patient in answering my questions.

Currently: Had one of the best meals of our lives. Portions, price, flavor, everything was just out of this world!!

Previously: Finally we have delicious Ethiopian food in Syracuse! Came in the afternoon and we were in and out in 30min. Food was great, injera is perfect, the mango drinks were amazing. They even accommodated a request off the menu. Very fair price. Will come back often!

One of the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had!!! Great flavors, friendly ambiance!! Cozy place!!
This place has been our regular visit when in Syracuse!!

I would say, food made with love, feels like home considering the similarity this cuisine has with our traditional Indian cuisine!!

The service here makes you feels really good about the place!!

LOVE Habiba’s! I first had their food back in 2020 at their old location (loved it then too), so I wanted to check out their new location at the Salt City Market.

Wow—just as good as I remember! I got the Yebere Beyaynetu (2 beef dishes and 3 vegetarian) with chef’s choice. Everything was delicious. They were super friendly as well!

Already can’t wait until my next visit. Wish I got a photo of their setup, their restaurant sign is gorgeous!
