Ordered 3 plates for my family of 4. Specifically asked if the “Large” Oxtail would serve 2 and the same for the “Large” Jerk Chicken plate. (Was told “yes” – emphatically) Also ordered a Medium Jerk chicken plate. And two “spicy” beef patties.

Short story is: Portion are too small AND I’m positive they aren’t using Jamaican recipes ….. go elsewhere.

Rice – they give you a ton…. For a reason.

The rice we received was not completely done, so there was some hard (undercooked) pieces throughout each plate.

Cabbage – tasted like cooked cabbage with no seasoning – at all

Plantains – just ok.

Spicy beef patties – not spicy.

Now…..

My “LARGE” oxtail – was essentially 6-7 bones with very little meat on them …. And a mountain of rice with what was supposed to be oxtail gravy, but tastes like just plain brown gravy that we Americans put on mashed potatoes or something.

My “Large Jerk chicken” plate was the pretty much the same – “Two” pieces of baked chicken (ONE leg and a ONE thigh – cut up into 2-3 pieces) with jerk rub on the and a jerk sauce that was supposed to be medium sliced – but much closer to No spice. Again, a mountain of rice with brown gravy, and unseasoned cabbage .

My “Medium” Jerk chicken also had “Two” pieces of baked chicken (ONE leg and a ONE thigh – cut up into 2-3 pieces) … (insert: Mountain of rice ….. etc, etc )

My wife said: “This Jamaican food is Mid!” …. I disagreed and told her she was insulting real Jamaican food by calling it that ….. and it definitely isn’t mid….. is borderline terrible.

Like how do you serve undercooked rice???

All that said, my biggest complaint outside of the rice being undercooked and giving us plain gravy for it is: the meat portions were SUPER small – for the cost – and How does a Large Jerk Chicken and and Medium Jerk chicken have the same “Two pieces of chicken” ???

Ultimately…. I’m given 1 star, only because I can’t give them ZERO Stars. They are charging Jerkhut and Golden Krust Prices for American food with small portions and store bought sauces.

This isn’t Jamaican food by any stretch of the imagination….. go somewhere else.

I ordered two large oxtail dinners from Rhythm Pon De Grille and was very disappointed with the overall experience. For nearly $90, I expected hearty portions and a meal that matched the price. Instead, both dinners were extremely skimpy. Even the rice, which most restaurants usually pack in generously, was minimal. It really felt like the meals were portioned to stretch ingredients rather than satisfy customers.

The flavor of the oxtail was decent, but when you’re paying that kind of money, portion size, presentation, and overall value are just as important as taste. I truly wanted to enjoy and support this restaurant, but I left feeling shortchanged. At this price point, I expected much more substance and care in what was served.

What’s even more disappointing is that they clearly don’t care what customers say, as they never respond to reviews or make an effort to address issues. That in itself says a lot about how they value their customers’ feedback.

Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2 out of 5 stars)

This is some of the best food at the Krate and in the area! I’ve had the Jerk Chicken Mild and spicy. Both sauces have tons of flavor and the chicken is smoked to perfection. Some of the absolute best smoked chicken I’ve had since I was a kid. This place has become one of my favorite restaurants in Clearwater, Tampa, st Pete and Wesley chapel. You better make the drive to try this place!

Favorite, most authentic Jamaican spot in Greater Tampa area! The vibes are always high, love catching positivity from Camille. The food is consistently amazing as well. The jerk chicken is great and this oxtail is a 10/10

This Place was TRASH and a Robbery. It really hurts when I tried to go out of my way to support a business run by people who looked like me, just to get robbed and bamboozled. The medium OX Tail dinner was nothing short of a plate Full of Soggy Rice along with some gravy and 4 small bones with Very Little Meat on them…..for $25+!!
I’d never return to spend any money here…..total wasted of my resources.

Absolutely loved this place! The food was full of authentic Jamaican flavor and tasted like it was made with real love. The jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender, and smoky, and the sides were just as good especially the rice and peas. The portions were generous, the prices were fair, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The vibes felt warm and authentic, like a little piece of Jamaica. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to and recommending to anyone craving real Caribbean food

Got the large oxtail and rice with a beef patty everything was cooked to perfection my only issue was the oxtail had a sweet taste to it which I’m more into an umami or spiced flavor but that’s just my preference. My wife loved it so I’m can’t mark a lower score based on that. The only issues I seen about this place was the portion size, and I was happy with the portion we received. Unfortunately the price of oxtail has gone up so if it’s not something you’re aware of it may blindsided you but definitely not disappointed one bit.

Excellent ox tail. Meat was tender and easily sliding off the bone. Good portions on meat and sides (rice, veggies, plantains) honestly speaking I could have shared my plate but it was so good I didn’t. Good portion for the price. It was kinda late when we ate so atmosphere was quiet but nice. #bigback
