Small dining area. Order and pay at the counter. 7 tables. Small place.

There is black duct tape on the floor, their cobbled stone linoleum is coming up.

Why is this place even called Java Bay? They only have regular coffee or decaf. They give you a mug if you would like their coffee here. We took a pass. My husband prefers lattes or mochas or flavored coffees.

The staffer at the counter suggested we go across the street to Velodrome Coffee, since they have no good coffee options.

We will have to stop by elsewhere to get a decent coffee for the hubby.

Ordered the mushroom omelet, side of rye bread and the hash tag. No berries for the sweet oats & berries – can’t order that then.

I wasn’t able to get a physical receipt. I was told I will get an email. It’s been over an hour and no email so far. Would it be so hard right print out a receipt for me?

At the moment I am regretting our choice to come here immediately. Our order decreased by their unavailability of key ingredients for the oatmeal. We could have gotten hot oatmeal for free back at the hotel and wild berries at least.

They have no non-pork sausage or non-pork options at all. Just eggs as a substantial meat option. 🙁

Not an extensive menu for sure.

There was a short blonde, light brown wavy hair at the bottom of my omelet, found it after two bites into the omelet. It was sadly at the bottom of the omelet, so, I didn’t see it until I cut into it. Gross.

I brought it to the staffer’s attention, she couldn’t see it. I had to pull it out in front of her to see it. She didn’t manage to apologize and instead asked if I would like her to remake it, or what, eat the omelet contaminated with hair in it?

This breakfast experience gets worse by the minute. I had to wait for my redo of my food, she informed me it would take 10 more minutes. Thinking it was because the skeletal cook in the back has other orders to do for the folks that arrived and ordered after us to get their food. Another table of food out for another group of guests that came after us.

I got to eat my omelet about 15 minutes after my husband finished his breakfast hash tag.

The hash tag was okay.

Oh good. I finally got my redo mushroom omelet 15 minutes later and after two tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before my redo food due to a hair. I see they have their priorities in disorder. Good for them.

My second mushroom omelet has no hair in it. Yay! The only flavor is pepper on top of the egg, which is wrapped over the eggs, tomatoes and mushroom. Mushrooms are good, lack luster as far as flavor though. At least they use fresh mushrooms.

The rye toast is soggy from the omelet. And they placed two butter packets on top and over the toast. I am sure many hands have been on these packets.

This breakfast trip has extended over an hour of our life. I am left thoroughly disgusted and disappointed in the abominable service of this place.

Not super comforting hearing the cook in the back sneezing, twice. Hope it’s just allergies. I am glad I can’t see back there at all. Given the output of the food so far. Cleanliness and good customer service doesn’t seem to be a thing here.

Overall very good experience! We were a little hesitant to go here because we had heard the wait for food was very long, 40-60 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised to only wait 25. We felt the corned beef hash was especially delicious! So glad we got to stop in.

It was nothing special. I figured with a name like Java bay, there would be way more coffee options. Also, for the French toast and bananas, don’t call them big because they were just normal size. And maybe put the bananas on top or something idk

Got there, and it’s pretty tiny inside. It was deceiving because only a few people at tables but the host told us it would be about a 30 minute wait for food. A LOT of to go orders were happening.

We decided to sit and wait. It was self serve water and clean up your own plates. Which is fine.

Food came out and it was so hot and fresh. I got a breakfast sandwich and it was wonderful. My boyfriend got an omelette with potato’s inside and he really enjoyed that as well. It’s a place I would return to again.

Great food. They cook with spinach in alot of their dishes which I like. Makes the meal feel good, unlike your typical greasy spoon diner. Would recommend the farmers omlette or spinach feta scramble. Unlimited self serve coffee and it was good coffee.

Simple, homey cafe. Order at the counter, fill your own water and coffee. The menu is just the right size, and everything is cooked fresh with quality ingredients. Highly recommend!

Stopped in for breakfast at Java Bay while visiting Marquette, and it was an absolute gem of a find! I had the breakfast burrito, which came packed with black beans, sausage, eggs, crispy hash browns, cheese, and a touch of sour cream—every bite was flavorful, filling, and perfectly cooked. My 9-year-old daughter ordered the French toast with bananas, and she practically licked the plate clean (always a good sign!).

We both had apple juice to drink, and even that tasted fresh. The service was friendly, fast, and made us feel right at home. Cozy atmosphere, great people, and fantastic food—what more could you ask for? We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town.

Excellent breakfast! Literally the hottest food I’ve ever been served.

Second visit here today (July ‘25). Often you return to a place you’ve enjoyed previously and are disappointed. Not here. A small kitchen means a little slower service when they are busy, but it also means attention to detail. Another delicious breakfast served piping hot.

I can’t believe we had breakfast anywhere else during our stay, as this place rocks! Cozy place with 7-8 tables where you order at the counter and then have a seat and wait to eat. They give you a coffee mug, and you can pour your own, and grab a glass of ice water from a coffee counter. It might take 15-20 mins, if busy, to get your food, but it’s worth the wait. The burrito is huge, and very tasty, and the mushroom omelette is loaded. Thick sliced toast as well. Don’t pass this place up!

Wow. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this is one of the best breakfast places in Michigan. All of Michigan. Me and my wife stopped by while traveling through the UP on our honeymoon. We split the breakfast burrito and farmers omelet. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Coffee was also phenomenal.
We ended up talking to the owner about business and our aspirations of wanting to move our own business to the UP. This will forever be on our list of places to stop while in the UP and hopefully someday we’ll become regulars.
