What an absolutely unexpected delight!!! I love diners with home-cooked food. I’m so blessed to have stumbled on this gem. I enjoyed the best egg salad on rye sandwich with ham and bean soup I’ve had since childhood then brought home an assortment of baked goods for my children that made them very happy. The service provided by Celest and the other ladies was warm and friendly. The impact this organization makes on their community by feeding those in need is immediately recognizable and I was grateful to have the opportunity to give. Can’t wait to return to try their breakfast options!!!

My mother and I stopped for breakfast. Got in there and it’s this cute little restaurant, the atmosphere seemed chill, small town diner vibes. That is where it ended for us unfortunately. We stood at the doorway for almost 15 minutes, waiting to be seated. no indication or estimation of when we will be seated. Several people left as we were standing in the doorway. We ended up just leaving as we were mostly in the way of those leaving or holding the door. I can’t comment on the food, because although it smelled great, we weren’t seated. Had someone simply stated, “we’ll be right with you” or something along those lines, any indication we were in existence, we may have waited. But we just didn’t feel welcome after waiting so long, watching groups leave, and we were still standing there pretty much invisible.

Fun diner. I love this place and the service they do for the community, but the food is questionable. Delicious crispy chicken but accompanied with cold mashed potatoes covered by a thick cold gravy and canned green beans. I fished out the chicken, and not sure what was in the pumpkin pie. Great and friendly service, but food …

We stopped in for pie and coffee. If you like pie and coffee, you’ll be VERY happy here. We had the strawberry-rhubarb and the raspberry pies. The strawberry-rhubarb was very good but slightly over sweetened for my taste and without a strong underlying flavor to make it go. The raspberry pie also sweet but had a raspberry punch that made it an excellent pie. All the pies are made on-premise by the way. The coffee, while not gourmet, stands up well to the pie.

This place had great reviews so decided to try it. The buffet did not disappoint! The French toast was amazing. It was nice to sample several items & fill up for a busy day. And the staff was very friendly.

The Front Porch Café in Ellsworth is an absolute gem. It’s a pay-what-you-can nonprofit, but don’t let that fool you—this place delivers food and service better than most sit-down restaurants we’ve ever been to. The prices were incredible, the portions were generous, and everything came out fresh and done right.

The staff was attentive, kind, and genuinely seemed to care about every guest. On top of that, even the other patrons were welcoming—someone noticed my jacket and came right over to chat like we were old friends. That says a lot about the kind of community this café builds.

Between the value, the mission, the food, and the people, this spot is top-notch all around. If you’re anywhere near Ellsworth, skip the chain restaurants and go straight to The Front Porch—you’ll leave full, happy, and wanting to come back.

The best hometown restaurant ever. Been coming here since I can remember not always been called the front porch, but still as good as ever. Staff is as friendly as they come. They are quick and courteous. The cooks are great and extremely fast. So glad this place is still open. Prices can’t really be beat and portion are very generous. Thanks!!!

Great small cafe in Ellsworth. We went many years ago while in the area and wanted to go back today. Great food and prices, they raise money for charities.

We love this spot! We discovered Front Porch Ministries during a summer vacation on Lake Charlevoix and fell in love the first time we ate here. It is a non-profit ministry and the prices are suggested donation. We always give more as the food is excellent. I highly recommend stopping here for breakfast or lunch!
