Boarded Up by Chubbies Burger serves single or double smash burger patties, and we came ready to eat.
We ordered the O.P. Style: a smashed beef patty with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and house-made spicy pickles, finished with a garlic-sesame aioli. It’s messy in the best way and full of bold flavor.
We also tried the Carolina Onion, their take on the Oklahoma onion burger. It features a smashed beef patty, cheddar cheese, thin-sliced griddled onions, house-made pickles, and a Carolina dijonnaise. Simple, savory, and well executed.
For sides, the Cali Fries were loaded with American cheese, grilled onions, 1950 sauce, diced pickles, and relish. Rich, indulgent, and definitely shareable.
The food itself is solid. These are genuinely good smash burgers, and service was fast and efficient—no fluff, just food coming out quickly.
That said, this is a 3-star spot for me. There’s no parking validation, so street parking is your best option if you don’t want to pay. More importantly, there’s no restroom, and guests are told to use another business’s bathroom, which is awkward. There’s also nowhere to wash your hands, which is a miss when you’re serving messy, cheesy burgers.
Great food, but the lack of basic amenities holds it back.

We love burgers and Chubbies is one of the best smashed burger on the island! Generous single patty cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato and just the right amount of sauce. Normally I like skinny fries but the crinkle cut fries at Chubbies are great as they are crispy and not greasy.
Recommend going at off hour to avoid what can be a very long line. Going at 1:30 or later allows you to not wait for your burger and we were also able to sit down and enjoy our burgers while hot.
Service is great, love that Chubbies was able to reopen after being “boarded up” at original location.
Easy parking in municipal lot.

Very internally small quick burger joint. Solid for ur go to smash burger.
U need to tell them SPECIFIC ingredients on the burger. If you don’t, they have a specific way of building a burger and it’s going to automatically come that way.
I learned this the hard way, as I most effectively and efficiently do l. forgetting to tell them no cheese. I unfortunately got cheese on my burger. However, it iS still delicious. Solid burger guys !! Everything else right so its cherry.
I recommend trying the different fruit drinks.. cuz why not. They are colorful and thirst quenching.
I got the “green river” lemonaid. I enjoyed it.

Cute newish joint serving a select few styled burgers, French fry variations and fun island style sodas and milkshakes. We tried the Carolina Onion Burger and the 1950 Burger. We shared the spicy garlic fries and a strawberry guava milkshake (which I ended up eating with a spoon at the end). Everything was fresh, delicious and nicely packaged. It has always been busy looking whenever we pass by here. We lucked out with a 2-seater wood booth when our order was called for pick-up. The guys working there are friendly, patient and upbeat!

We ordered 30 grilled cheeses, 70 cheeseburgers, and 75 fries, and the food ended up being one of the highlights of the entire party. Multiple people went out of their way to say how good the food was.
Beyond the food, the logistics were seamless. The Chubbies team was easy to communicate with and had everything ready exactly when they said they would.
Great food, reliable and friends, and zero stress. Would 100% use them again to cater large events (and for casual grinds).

The burgers were excellent, and the spicy garlic fries stood out as an incredible, must-try item. We loved the quaint ambiance of the eating space, and the staff provided truly wonderful service. The price was perfectly commensurate with the portion size.

New to Kaimuki, Boarded Up Chubbies Burgers is a nice addition to the food scene. If you want a home cooked grilled cheeseburger, this place is that! Adding garlic fries and a milkshake makes it such a nostalgic meal with a local twist. Delicious!

The OP double is a perfect smash burger. Worth the drive. And whoever said the spicy fries were too spicy should really not order things labeled spicy, they are delicious, but literally just a few shakes of cajun seasoning
