The vibe is laid back which we loved. Outdoor covered community seating. Service was fine, not amazing but not bad!
Now the food, my veggie burrito was good! Flavor was lacking a bit but I enjoyed it. My daughter got pork tacos and loved them. The other members of our party really didn’t like their burritos with carne asada. They said it had a weird taste, almost chemical, and they couldn’t eat it. Not sure what was the deal but there are better places to eat.

We stopped at Red Hot Mama’s on our first night after arriving in Kauai, looking for a quick dinner before heading home. We found it on Google, and while the reviews were mixed, the menu looked encouraging especially the fish tacos, which were described as fresh and a specialty of the place.

Unfortunately, the fish tacos turned out to be the worst dish we ordered and were quite disappointing. On the positive side, the beef quesadilla was good, and the burrito was decent.

We also ordered online through DoorDash, which showed the order would be ready in 14 minutes. Since our drive to the restaurant was about 16 minutes, we thought the timing would work perfectly. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to be told that we needed an additional 20 minutes for the food to be ready.

Overall, it was a mixed experience with some good items, but also some letdowns and timing issues.

Okay option for a burrito, localized style so do not expect authentic Mexican. Their habenero is really mild and literally the only thing that is remotely spicey, perfect for spice adverse or reluctant gringos out there. This is one of the more affordable options for Princeville ($16 to $18 for a burrito after you add meat n stuff) and 3 street tacos on a paper plate runs $20 to $23-ish, they charge a buck or two if you would like salsa (two house blends of sauces – a mango habanero and a mild creamy aioli sauce) which are pleasantly tasty but not that spicy. Sometimes chicken can be overseasoned and super salty (almost inedible) and burritos have ingredients in chunks (not mixed or layered well where meat is in one end, beans and rice at other end, etc.), so be aware. They can get busy at times, we usually see 15 to 20 minutes average wait time during their slower mid afternoon outside of the lunch rush. No indoor seating, but covered common area seating is available for all local food and treat shops in the complex, they do a lot of to go orders too.

To be honest it took 45 min to get like three fish tacos, but the tacos tasted great and it seemed like maybe they were short staffed or had someone new working the front counter? There’s a small window for walk-up ordering in-person, or you can use a kiosk and order virtually. A few people had ordered before us and one of the people got a pretty large order and then brought it back because I guess the order was incorrect.

Anyway, the folks working that day were super friendly, and the fish tacos we eventually got where really tasty, so even though it was a long wait I’m still giving this place overall a 5-star review. Mahalo!

This place is delicious! I got the fresh fish tacos and let me tell you, when they say fresh they mean fresh! We sat in the patio area and the atmosphere is super cute and nice. Would definitely recommend this place!

On our mission to find the best tacos. This was not it. We got the fish tacos and wagu tacos. Pics look beautiful; but unfortunately these had zero flavor. Zero. Some chulupa could maybe have helped but they didn’t have any hot sauce. Just the house sauce that came on the tacos, again lacking flavor. Just basically a mayo. Very disappointed:( we had bowls her last year, and they were good. Again, not the place for tacos.

Please don’t eat here, you will regret it. Your money will be well spent elsewhere than here. Never have I been this upset about the quality of food. Ordered 3 grilled fish tacos ($22), beef burrito ($18) and guacamole and chips ($10). For something overpriced I expected excellent quality but I am shocked that this is what they’re serving people. The grilled fish which was only one small piece per taco was so salty. It was basically soaked in salt, no other seasoning to it. I squeezed all the lime onto it and still didn’t get rid of the saltiness. The fish were overcooked too. I couldn’t even finish it. My partner’s burrito was a mess. It was not wrap tightly, fell apart on first bite. How can they not know how to roll/wrap a burrito?! The burrito was also salty and it wasn’t flavorful like how a burrito is suppose to be. Guacamole is so easy to make and yet they somehow fail at this too. It was so bland. This is not Mexican nor Tex-mex, if that’s what you’re expecting here. It is a hot mess.

The only thing worse than a raw onion in a burrito is a raw RED onion. I made it super-clear to the girl when I ordered but I hate raw onions so I ordered my burrito without pico. About the third or fourth time I bit into tons of raw onion I gave up on the burrito. It took a while for them to make it, and I double checked when I took it from them that there was no pico. I don’t know what else is full of raw onion, the corn maybe? I saved the burrito, thinking I could dissect it and at least eat the good parts later, but it was a mushy mess by then. Putting pesto in a burrito is an interesting move. I didn’t hate that part.. I was a little bit hesitant about ordering Mexican food on Kauai. There wasn’t a lot open in Princeville but I should’ve held out a few minutes to Hanalei town. Food trucks galore there! For what it’s worth this burrito is a decent value. Not for me because I didn’t eat very much of it. But it’s a lot of food for 11 bucks ($17 with protein.) It’s actually too much, basically a sloppy mess!

Three words: De. Lish. Ous! I just read another review that said the tacos had no flavor. Those were definitely not the tacos we enjoyed! We ate here multiple times during our stay and enjoyed every meal. The food was fresh and tasty, featuring local ingredients and big flavors. The food court area is convenient to access and features live music nightly. Try the chips and guac–some of the best I’ve ever had!

Unbelievable experience! Ordered tacos at the ordering system near the counter, waited 20 minutes. Tacos came out fried. I told them I placed an order for grilled. The owner proceeded to scold me for using the system wrong, and refused to remake the order. Absolutely terrible attitude from the chef and the owner.

Would not trust the energy being put into this food by this chef. Really bad attitude.
