first time here and immediately the service is my cup of tea. not too in your face — a good balance. my sushis were great, the duck carpaccio was a lot smaller/thinner than i expected but tasted good. presentation is lovely and things were going good until i got my soft shell crab bao bun. it’s probably the one dish i had that looked less appetising. the bun itself tasted good but texture was less fluffy than i’d hope. softshell crab was well cooked and it was a fair portion but fell quite bland (for me) while the fries on the side were a bit too salty. i’d say skip the bao buns and get the other stuff, which are great.
although the food was good, for the price i’d think twice. i went here alone for lunch on a whim, its more on the spennier side for a casual lunch. would be a cute date spot though.

Our 2nd New Years Eve at Umi and it never disappoints. Food was incredible, brilliant flavours and seasonal. The cocktails where also fantastic, felt like a real treat. The service was exceptional, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

The food was amazing the cocktails and beer where delicious. The atmosphere was nice and chill. The Tea party cocktail is highly recommended and they have Asahi beer on tap which is nice. If you like Japanese food I think you’ll be very happy. It’s busy especially at weekends so you need to book a table.
Pricey “Japanese food” and to ask for a tip after that bill…

I was in Derry for the first time. While going to another restaurant on Tuesday, I passed by Umi, I could see that the dishes were nicely presented. Next day, I convinced my colleagues to try it. This week was Halloween, Derry is full of tourists. We had no booking, we had to wait 30min at the bar. The barman was nice, we could exchange while he was busy. The place is nice, warm and staff friendly. All the dishes were great. Therefore, we decided to have dinner again. We booked this time and we had table upon arrival. Again, great experience. I really recommend. Check the pics.

Our amazing server Dan gave great recommendations, the food was stunning and Dan himself was great craic. 10/10 will be back. We ordered 2 things from the main menu and asked if Dan would pick our third choice for us. He smashed it and put the cherry on top for our experience at Umi. Top tier.

Start to finish everything was ! Had an amazing waitress who is pictured in the drinks menu(Dan’s missus) LOL, Full of craic and gave us a few recommendations for after and the morning.
We where asked was it better than yugo and yes it was. Very much so!

As regular visitors to Umi we were already big fans of the food and service here but recently we had our wedding reception here. On behalf of my new wife and myself I cannot praise the team enough for such a great day. From the pre planning with Gary and Jess, to the service by the whole team on the day or the special attention to detail for some of our guests we were so well looked after from start to finish and it made the whole build up and occasion stress free. This was actually their first wedding reception but you would have thought it was their 100th given how well it ran. Like amazing food, great cocktails and are thinking of having a 50 something guest wedding? Look no further than Umi and the amazing team working there – you will not regret it!!!

So good we ate here two nights in a row. If I close my eyes and lick my lips I can evoke the salty chilli flavours. The bitter sweet salad balances out those flavours so well and cleanses the palate. Such a great idea having a fresh, crisp and citrusy salad to accompany such big flavours. The cocktails worked in this regard too and coated our tongues with silky goodness. I’m sickened I can’t remember their names – they are new additions to the menu and can’t be found online. We got the sharing steak on night 2 and got it medium as recommended but I would’ve preferred more rare. Our 18 month old was with us and the staff were really lovely and considerate. The chicken and sticky rice went down a treat with her. We were only here 3 weeks ago but I am already figuring out a return trip. The staff were so dead on and made us feel very welcomed. The Wagu beef, lobster and tempura prawns were amazing but the pork belly wasn’t crispy, the Tuna was dry and virtually tasteless (the dressing was tasty) and the dirty chips were soggy with only one small slice of chilli.
We didn’t want all the food coming at once so ordered the fish first and wanted a gap. We must have been asked 5 times if we wanted a break but they kept coming back. I dont like being pestered. It was expensive
