Stopped by Captain Herman’s Fish Fry in East End and it did not disappoint! I had the Cayman-style beef and it was packed with flavor. It came with creamy macaroni, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and a little salad on the side — everything tasted amazing and the price was very reasonable.

I also ordered the conch fritters and they were some of the best I’ve had — super crispy on the outside but tender and tasty inside.

The atmosphere is great too — plenty of shady spots to sit, laid-back vibes, and a beautiful ocean view while you eat. Definitely a must-try if you’re in the East End and want authentic Cayman food!

We had the red snapper, celebration bread, stewed pork, and french fries. It was so delicious. Highly recommend! Great local fare.

Nice little restaurant with local food right on the beach. The food was very good. I had the garlic shrimp with rice and my husband had sweet & sour chicken. Both were delicious. The view of the ocean was beautiful.

I am married to a Jamaican/Caymanian and this is where the locals come to get authentic caribbean cuisine.

I’ve had most everything on the menu. It is all good! My favorites are the oxtail or whole fried snapper.

This is an outdoor dining experience but it is on the windward side of the island so there is usally an nice breeze.

It is not fancy, is clean and has some of the best caribbean food on the island at 1/2 the price of restraunts in town.

It is 100% worth the drive.

We enjoyed Captain Herman’s and ate there twice while visiting the island. We had the goat curry with rice. Also had the whole snapper and mahi mahi with dumplings. Everything was delicious. If you are looking for a casual atmosphere, and a nice meal with a beautiful view this is the place.

The BEST conch fritters. We also had barracuda for the first time with fried plantains. We returned a second time for the sweet and sour fish. I LOVE that the dishes come with sides, some restaurants need to take note. I was overcharged but they corrected the issue once I brought it up, so just double check your bill if you’re paying in USD. Decent food overall.

If you like white tablecloths, silverware, and table service, Captain Herman’s may not be for you.

HOWEVER, if you’d love an authentic island eating experience, with delicious and fresh food, and views to die for, you’ll love it here (as we did).

This is a locals’ takeaway, with covered and outdoor (under parasols) seating, and the locals we met were friendly. There is a chalked, priced, menu by the hatch. Walk up and order. It’s cooked fresh, and you’ll be called when it’s ready (and to pay). We paid in USD with no bother.

Wonderful place, staff was so helpful there are lots of nice locals who eat here. The ocean view is beautiful and the food is super affordable, definitely the best meal we had on the island. I recommend the lemon butter shrimp, and if your feeling adventurous the barracuda is delicious, definitely coming back!

My wife and I ate at Captain Herman’s with some friends while staying on the East End.
The place was basic, had outdoor seating with choices of covered and uncovered behind the order window. The eating area had full ocean view.
All the food was really good and fresh. It was very reasonably priced for Cayman. The local to tourist ration was probably 4 to 1 so this is definitely a place that locals prefer.
We enjoyed watching the sunset and watching sharks swim around in the shallows behind the restaurant.

Parking lot was empty but wow are people missing out. Awesome food, great value, and incredible view. Many locals came through to pick up orders they had called in (this May be why some thought locals got food faster than them). We shared a large goat curry and conch fritters, it was only $18 KYD and we had left overs. Most goat meat I have ever had, (after removing bones and gristle normal in dish) by about double. (Paid price listed, other white tourists like us may have been confused that they are in foreign country and prices listed are local currency?) Anyway, conch was great and the view was amazing as we sat at one of the many table there and watched waves crash and clouds change with sunset. Wonderful. Oh and so was the service, one woman show when we were there and when I returned to window to see if food was ready, she let me know she saw where we sat and would bring it out. Shame others didn’t have our experience, we will go back before we head home.
