Restaurant was at half way point in our trip to KC.
Stopped there on a Saturday evening about 7 pm.
We were seated quickly but it took nearly 20 min. before we saw a waitress. At the time they were busy but not overly so.
Wife ordered 16 oz T-bone – med.
I ordered 16 oz Ribeye – med. rare
These entrees came with 2 sides.
I chose the one trip salad bar option. This side added $2 to the price.
The salad bar was lettuce, toppings, dressings, and a potato salad.
When our Steaks arrived, I took a bit off the end and noticed that it was extremely rare.
Cutting into the steak, it was completely raw. Not just rarer than I wanted, but purple raw.
I was in the meat business for over 30 years. From slaughtering to cutting (old school hanging beef) and cooking.
Not only was this steak raw but it was near canning quality beef. Not remotely close to restaurant quality.
Our waitress was a trooper. Did the best she could under the circumstances.
Called our waitress over and told her the steak wasn’t remotely close to being done and showed her the inside of the steak. She visibly shuddered at the sight.
She told me she would get me a new steak. She asked to see it again and she not only visibly shuddered at the sight, but even let out a “eww”
She came back shortly after and said they would only reheat it. And when she did bring it back, it had been cut into even more. It was a disaster.
I just refused the whole thing.
My Wife’s steak though cooked was not cooked quite to her liking. But it was apparently close enough. It was rather rare around the bone area.
In the end, we paid for my wife’s meal and our drinks.
Cannot recommend this place at all.
On the TV’s they were showing “The Voice” while the stereo played other music fairly loud. Not a big deal, until, it was Game time. I asked for the TVs over the bar to be put on the Monday Night Football game, and heard others request this as well. They changed one TV out of 8 in the place on a side wall of the bar to the game, and put poker on another TV while the rest stayed on “The Voice”. When pressed, the bartender said the manager did what she could, and they weren’t going to change any more channels.
When I left early to go home and watch the game, I told the manager/owner that I was unhappy about not being able to stay and watch the game. She said, “This is Not a Sports Bar.” So there ya go, If you want a mediocre steak and a nice place to listen to music while you watch “The Voice” on Monday night, this is the place for you! I’m guessing they’ll show “The Bachelorette” when it’s on too.
My visit started with a greeting of the group of employees at the till and asking if they had wifi. The saloon is situated in a truck stop and most truckers look forward to a little time online after a long day. The older one (the owner/manager?) snapped back, “Not if you’re going to use it for porn!”. I was taken aback, and thinking perhaps she was joking responded back jokingly.
I never knew the crickets in Missouri chirped so loudly when someone was giving you the scornful cold shoulder.
The food was good, cooked to my specifications, the beer was cold and the prices par to a little high. But my waitress crossed the line from “attentive and helpful” to “pestering” and then gave the distinct impression she was railroading me out of there. She asked if I wanted a take-out container when I was about 1/2 way through my meal and still eating. Then she asked if I wanted dessert before I’d finished my first course. I asked if they were closing early for the night, but they weren’t. I was still slightly amused at just how poorly they were treating a paying customer — one of the few in the establishment despite it being supper time.
But the final straw came at the end of my visit. I was just about done my online work but had to visit the loo. I took my bill and paid it on the way and then returned to my table to finish off a few things and log out. That’s when the bouncer came over and told me a waitress had accused me loitering, had called the manager and she had “required” him to come and tell me I was no longer welcomed there.
It had been fewer than 15 minutes since I’d paid; and left a considerable tip not because my waitress was good but because I usually do when I linger and use the wifi.
I’ve given the manager/owner a chance to return my call and give me her side of the story before publishing this review; because every story has at least 2 sides. So far she’s declined.
Local scuttlebutt is she’s trying to sell the business. Any prospective buyers should be prepared for a long haul in trying to restore a customer base that has been active sabotaged and driven away. I would agree with another reviewer here who commented that they appear to hate their customers.
Edit: I got the bbq bacon cheeseburger and wife got a baked potato. Burger was Ok, fries were freshly cut but soggy. Wife’s baked potato was cold. Pretty sure we’ll both be sick by the time we get home.
