One of my favorite bars in town! The drinks are cheap, the music is always on point, and the crowd has such a fun, friendly energy. The dance floor never disappoints, and I end up meeting new people every time I go. They also host karaoke on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which is always a good time. It gets even livelier during the school year when the students are back in town. This bar does draw in a younger crowd.
The only downsides to this place is that the bouncers can be pretty rude and will often deny entry, and parking can often be a challenge to find. But I like this bar overall and would recommend it!

Great music on DJ nights and good karaoke nights too. Pretty decent drinks too. Staff is really nice and friendly. Three different room like spaces to handle with different theme.
Had a ton of fun during graduation weekend. 10/10 would recommend.

Have been a regular for about a year now, wouldn’t let us in because we were apart of a bar crawl and changed to get in. The bouncer discriminated against us especially after we talked to him, so decided to go to the back door where we would feel more welcome. Not a safe place for LGBTQ+ people who want to have a good time. Very disappointed, thought this bar was safe for us 🙁

Didn’t feel welcome as apart of the lgbtq community that wanted to have fun at the bar crawl. Bouncer was really mean to us even after we have been coming for a while. Decided to go to other bars like back door to feel more welcome

The bouncer bent my TN driver’s license in half because he did not think it was a real ID (it is), before even looking at it with the blue light. He was very rude to me when I complained that he had ruined my drivers license and wouldn’t let me show an alternative form of ID. I now have to pay to have it replaced. This was not my first time at Root Cellar and I have not had issues before this. I was happy to take my business elsewhere, and I certainly don’t plan to return. Don’t go to Root Cellar.

We had finished up a bar crawl and the bouncer wouldn’t let us in simply because we were apart of it. We changed and tried to come back but he still wouldn’t let us in because he recognized us and just didn’t like us. I’ve gone here several times before and have had issues with the bouncer just being mean to people. Not sure about coming back to keep dealing with him. I try to support local business here in Bloomington but if this is how the environment is going to be I’m not interested in coming back.

Terrible service, bouncer is incredibly rude and has no idea how to treat people clearly…other people in the reviews have experienced it as well. I will not return, he was rude to my friend and I because we were simply just dancing…it was ridiculous.

Really wanted to enjoy a quiet space, but was met at the door with snark and cynicism. Wanted to have a good night after a bar crawl but decided to go somewhere else after it was made clear we weren’t welcome.

Mid tier mocktails. I was prevented from reentry due to the bartender saying i was previously “too drunk when i left.” I only had non alcoholic drinks and ONE singular shot so they’re either drunk themselves or too afraid to just say they’re at capacity. Made me feel insecure the rest of the nights

I’ve only been there two times once for private party and once when it’s open to the public. Keep in mind that this is Bloomington, Indiana. The time I was there at that it was open to the public it was a majority of Gen Z LGBT crowd, so if that is not, your crowd keep that in mind. Service for the time I was there for the private party was great. I don’t remember the other time
