Not only was the food amazing, but the service was stellar! Savannah was our server and she was absolutely outstanding! She made us feel immediately at home and was so friendly and funny. She gave us great tips on ways to make our delicious dishes even better. Savannah clearly goes out of her way to make sure her guests have the best night out. I will definitely be back, and I hope I get Savannah again!

Finally went to Cena last night – and was not dissapointed. We got lucky and scored an inside table with no reservation right before the dinner rush. We started with a watermelon martini and an old fashioned. Neither of us are drink conisseurs but found both to be good. We ordered the fried caciocavallo to start. It’s fried cheese. It’s not going to blow you away, but it won’t hurt your feelings. The included chili sauce – a little goes a long way. The honey is there but for my tastes I’d liked it to be a little more prominent – but overall it was a good starter. I had the pork osso bucco and it was excellent. The pork fell from the bone easily but still maintained great texture and was not mushy. Was perfectly flavorful and when combined with the risotto made for an excellent comfort food experience. My girlfriend had the shrimp and grits and this was one of the few times she has ever cleaned a plate. She was a big fan. We finished up with a couple of night caps. Mine was an Italian coffee. It was warm, sweet, and great for sipping over conversation. Service was very attentive and friendly. We’ll be back.

Nic was our waiter, and he provided us with a great service! Everything was beautifully plated and had a complexity of flavors. We ordered from their special menu a thick slice of bacon with fried oysters. The catfish meal was also very good!

Born and reared in New Orleans but now residing in Houston (grandkids). We have a home here in Hammond and return every few months. We absolutely love Hammond and every time we return we make it a point to visit our friend Chas (owner) at Cena (pronounced Chaina) restaurant. It’s our favorite here in Hammond and there is NOTHING like this where we live! The service at the bar (shoutout to Bailey) is top notch. The ambiance is always great. The food (the best and local) is prepared and presented in the grandest way.
The turtle soup tonight was fantastic and every good as the best we’ve had in NO (Mr. B’s). The Beet Carpaccio (appetizer) was delectable too. The seafood special (entree) tonight (Friday) was the Mahi-Mahi served with mixed vegetables topped with a delectable cream sauce and was cooked perfectly (wife doesn’t like raw tuna). For dessert we shared the turtle cheese cake along with an espresso martini. Perfect way to finish our evening… absolutely delicious!
We had, as always a wam and inviting evening at our favorite dining venue here in Hammond. Not a sports bar; just enjoyed a fabulous evening out with my beautiful wife of 52 years and the peaceful conversations without the blaring music; although the background music was a wonderful blend of 70’s music that we could relate to…not over-bearing or harsh.
Always grateful for the generous hospitality of the staff and the personal greetings from the staff and the owner.
See y’all again next year…

Happy New Year!

Just ate at Cena for the first time tonight for my birthday dinner. I’m so happy we gave this place a chance. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Everything we had tonight were specials and not on the regular menu. We had a smoked pork belly appetizer that was actually being entered in a bacon competition in Gulfport tonight and definitely worthy. It had fried shrimp and melted cheese on the top. My only complaint would be the crust on the shrimp. Just a little too hard for our liking but that’s being picky. It’s the type of crust that’s so hard it falls off when you cut into the shrimp. The smoke on the pork belly though was perfect. We ate it all before I could get a pic. For our entree’s, my husband had a filet and I had gnocchi which is the very reason I wanted to eat there. It’s very hard to find gnocchi in a restaurant much less homemade. It was in a Parmesan cream sauce with grilled shrimp on top and there wasn’t a bite left on either plate.

The atmosphere was very nice and I know they were booked for the evening. We were lucky to get reservations the same day but we did call as soon as they opened today. Our waitress, Abbey, was one of the best waitresses we’ve had at any restaurant ever. She was so personable and knowledgeable about the menu. There were about 6-8 specials to tell us about between appetizers and main course and she had it all memorized perfectly. I would’ve stumbled through notes if it were me. We will definitely be back and will definitely request her again as well.

A must try! Tried many of the dishes here with my party and none was a disappointment. Our server also was able to suggest wines that were to our tastes. Really a superb service and experience.

This restaurant is hands down in the top 3 restaurants that I have ever dined in. I don’t know what military base they found the Chefs and waiters but you are doing your self a disservice if you have not visited. Okay, buckle in.

Beginning with the service. As a disclaimer, I am a regular who has never left a review anywhere so this place really moved me. I had one of the best waiters ever, Drake. Along with him, and the other servers, you will have an unforgettable dining experience.

What I love most about Cena is the care that that have for their customers from the moment you walk in. So now to the food.

Starting with the appetizer, fried shrimp sat on top of a bacon slab with Chilean honey glaze — 10/10. When I say I hate when shrimp appetizers don’t fill me up but this one almost made me reconsider stopping my food order. You really get what you pay for because the portion was so filling.

Cocktail hour: espresso martini and pumpkin spice martini. And for all you pumpkin haters stop right here because this is wa ls amazing. Perfectly well balanced and great. Now, I will say for the pumpkin martini if you are looking for a dessert, order it at the end of your meal. However, both drinks 10/10.

Dinner: I ordered the soft shell crab stuffed with seafood shrimp polenta and topped with a crawfish cream sauce along side broccolini and roasted tomatoes and a side of cranberry glaze. This was the taker. Everything was so well balanced.

The overall meal left me feeling so satisfied and satiated. I didn’t feel bloated at all and as a regular to this restaurant, I am floored at the consistency in the staff and the treatment of all people. It’s such a friendly dining experience and atmosphere.

If you are looking for a great night out, look no further. Chance, the owner, I’d exceptional and visits every table. Do yourself a favor and come.

So we ate at Cena’s Italian restaurant and the atmosphere and had good food not to mention how friendly the people were. My wife and I loved it. We would definitely go back. Everything was beautiful and the proportions was good. The only downside is the total cost is not possible to do once a week or even once a month for us. This was a special occasion as it was our 20th wedding anniversary and we want to have a nice sit down dinner with a chance to relax and relish the idea of being able to be in romantic setting.

This place quickly became my favorite place in Hammond to eat. We are there at least once a week, usually 3-4 times a week. They actually cook real food in the kitchen, not just drop some pre packaged or frozen foods on a pan or into some grease. Pasta made from scratch IN HOUSE! Fresh herbs chopped daily, fresh veggies, fish specials on what ever is fresh that day on top of their phenomenal regular menu! Home made cheesecakes, I could eat the whole thing. I’ve had everything on the menu (except the kids menu*), literally! Everything!! Its ALL good! Oh, the drinks…the drinks are so yummy!! Staff is top notch!
