We tried the guvec (baked in a clay dish) and mucver. While doner is a common dish we can find, we had never experienced these Turkish dishes. The flavors were amazing! We were so excited to dig in, I forgot to take before pictures. The hummus and pita appetizer was delicious as well. Check it out!

My family and I loved the food. This was our first time coming. We ended driving down to Illinois and saw this place on our way to the location.
Was definitely worth the stop.
Food was also very filling and worth the price for the amount of food that you get.

The food was very good, high quality, but a bit pricey and the beer selection was awful. The Ugly Burger looked great, so we’ll be back to try that. They really seemed to pride themselves on cleanliness of the restaurant. Overall, we’d definitely recommend stopping by.

So glad I brought my family here for lunch! We had an amazing experience at Ugly Restaurant and Bar. The service was perfect and I think our waiter was the owner. He made excellent recommendations and was patient with us.
Before you order they bring a carrot salad and lavash which was delicious. We ordered the baba ganoush, falafel, and cigar borek as appetizers and all were tasty. I ordered the Turkish Green Salad as my appetizer and it was one of the best salads I have ever tasted. The house dressing is so fresh and light.
For our main course, we had the Iskender doner and manti dumplings. Both dishes were fabulous. We asked about the sauce that comes with some of the dishes and the owner stated he makes the sauces. Did not have a name for the sauce so we just called it Ugly sauce. Get extra! It’s so good. We finished our lunch with baklava which was to die for.
We will definitely be returning in the future for dinner to try new items.

We had a very good experience and truly enjoyed our meals. Our server was helpful in navigating the menu for a gluten sensitivity, and the gf options were good. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the prices are reasonable.

I recently dined at Ugly Restaurant and Bar in Springfield, IL, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Tried the Lamb Chops and Grilled Wings, and both dishes were excellent. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. I’d definitely recommend giving their lamb chops and chicken wings a try if you’re in the area!

Ordered the Manti. The bowl was nice and large, with a large amount of dumplings. They were perfectly cooked and delicious. The Turkish tea was also very good. Waitress was kind and tentative to us. Was a perfect dining experience. Will definitely go back when I am in the Springfield area.

I recently had dinner at Ugly Restaurant and Bar, a Turkish grill that really impressed me with its food, though there are a few things that could be improved. The Iskender Kabob was the standout of the night, with perfectly tender meat, rich tomato sauce, and buttery bread that made the whole dish come together beautifully. I also tried the Adana Kabob, which had a nice spicy kick and was just as delicious. They even have some Arabic dishes like baba ghanoush and falafel, which adds a bit of variety. That said, the restaurant felt a little understaffed, so service was slower than I’d hoped, and the furniture could definitely use an upgrade—it felt a bit too basic for a place serving such great food. It’s also on the expensive side compared to other places around, but honestly, the quality of the food makes it worth it. Despite the small issues, I left feeling really satisfied and would happily come back just for the food.

First time experiencing this establishment. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. Food was topnotch, especially the Jasmine rice. My chicken kabob was tender and juicy. We will be returning soon.
