My wife and I recently started going to a new Japanese restaurant called Umika. It is located in the Lucky shopping center on Fremont Blvd near Paseo Padre Pkwy. We like it a lot.
The restaurant is very clean and the furnishings are fairly new. The interior is brightly lit with a lot of natural light from the windows. They have booths along one wall with free standing tables in the middle and a bench with tables on the opposite wall. There are about 15 tables in all.
The menu has a lot of rolls as well as the usual bento boxes, entrees, and noodles. I think the menu could be organized better, but there is a good selection of items. The qulaity of the sashimi is very good. The fish is fresh, the cuts are generous, and the taste is good. We’ve had the assorted sashimi platter, bento boxes with chicken terifyaki & saba shiyoyaki, the hamachi kama & chicken karage appetizers, tempura, and the rolls with. Mango in them. Everything tastes very good.
The prices are very competitive perhaps because they are new. They now have a promotion where you’ll get $10 off your next meal if you spend a total of $100 there (can be 3 or 4 or 5 meals on different days). 3 dinners for two at $35 each gets us $10 off our 4th meal there.
The main server, Ada, is super nice and has provided great service all 3 times we’ve been there. For a quick japanese meal that is not too expensive in a bright clean environment, choose Umika. I will.

I absolutely love the food because it’s perfectly balance between flavor and texture. Plus they give you a larger portion of food when you order a dinner combo than other Japanese restaurants in the bay area. Plus, their loyalty programs offer you better reward points for every $1 you spent you get 1 point. It’s a bang for you buck. I recommend being a regular here to support their business. I would love to have them around.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just checked out the soft opening of Umika Sushi in Northgate, Fremont, and everything was spot-on delicious! We started with the Chicken Karaage and sparkling sake, then moved on to Maguro Nigiri and a spicy tuna hand roll that was packed full of flavor. But the standout was the Bluefin Lover Roll—the beautiful marbling and fatty content reminded me of top-grade cuts I’ve only tasted in Japan. They didn’t have the Hamachi Kama yet (one of my favorites), but I can’t wait to come back for it. If you’re in Fremont, don’t miss this hidden gem! #PaulEverHome

Fast, efficient service. The food was really spot on—very clean flavors. Really loved that their spicy salmon roll uses chili oil instead of Sriracha. It adds so much depth to the flavor. The tempura batter was very light and crispy.

Ordered two rolls and one bento box for take out, total came to about $60. Unfortunately, the portions were much smaller than expected for the price. The sashimi cuts were very thin, and overall the food felt skimpy compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area.
Quality was okay, but the value didn’t match the cost. Probably wouldn’t reorder unless portion sizes improve.

Excellent spot. High quality sushi, reasonable prices, very nice atmosphere. The chu toro and spicy tuna hand rolls are particularly excellent! Lived here for 15 years and tried everything in Union City, it’s now pretty clearly the best sushi in this town anyway.
