I highly recommend Seiji’s if you are a raw fish lover. The sashimi and nigiri were some of the best I’ve had anywhere. The Kanpachi was so buttery, I’d never had amberjack like it before. The restaurant is small, with only three tables and a two seat bar. Make a reservation, especially if you want to order Omakase! Best sushi I’ve had in Hawaii.

We had the omakasi. This choice came with so much food! It is the chef’s special. Small space that makes for a nice dinning experience. Only 3 tables. From the start to the finish, the food was excellent. The toro and nigiri stood out. The seared scallops were a pleasant surprise. There was a seared tofu that was excellent as well. Attentive service by the husband and wife team.

An unsuspecting hole in the wall. There are only 3 tables and reservations are required. The owners are your chef, host, and server.

We ordered the chirashi, soft shell crab roll, rainbow roll, and tempura udon. Wow – so fresh. The best tempura and udon soup ever. You need to get this. They even make their own Tongarishi from scratch, it’s amazing. The fish was so fresh and tasty. So worth it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Dinner at Seiji Sushi is an intimate dining experience where you get to talk to and get served from the Chef himself (chef and owner) and his lovely wife.
It was so nice to have the flexibility of ordering a bit at a time, not being rushed, and baking able to relax and enjoy our dinner.
We started with 3 kinds of sashimi (six pieces of each) … tuna (mix of regular and Toro), hamachi, ono (mix of and seared).
Then we moved on to the Tempura appetizer which was a combination of shrimp and vegetables.
The Edamame was the best we ever had with the special spices!
Moving on to the rolls … YUM!
Seiji Special Roll: this changes on a daily basis and today it was a spicy tuna on the inside with cucumber and on top layered with fresh tuna, avocado and roe.
Spider roll, which is a soft crab roll: When you have this the flavors, just keep going and going and going and going and going… Stop saver and enjoy!
We opted for one more roll, which was the Salmon Skin Roll and it was absolutely to die for. Chef’s Recommendation. We dug into it too quickly to take a picture, but snapped one a little bit later and it’s the last photo. Oh my God so happy we got this.
In all of the rolls, the sushi rice is done to perfection!
Usually we go broke on a sushi night but not here! The least expensive yet the best quality sushi we’ve ever had!!
Ultimate Kudos to these owners and establishment!!

Reservations are Required at this little slice of Japan located in downtown Kona, and it is very well worth it (Ive been twice now). Run by a Husband-Wife team, this restaurant transported me back to my dining experiences in Japan (if you have seen my other reviews you know I’ve been to a lot of restaurants there). The food is wonderful, with excellent flavor and preparation. This place serves up the best eel I’ve ever had outside of Japan. The restaurant is quaint and in a very Japanese manner only has 4 tables. Seiji and Chie are kind, engaging, and showed me great hospitality on both of my visits there. I honestly can’t wait to return to Kona so I can dine with them once again!

So delicious and a romantic/intimate atmosphere. My husband and I got in right away which was amazing (but it was a Monday night so possibly easier to get in due to that.) Well worth a visit. We both agreed it was the best sushi we’ve had!

This little sushi spot is absolutely worth the trip. It’s tiny, so make your reservation well in advance. We had the omakase with the sake pairing and it was some of the best sushi I have experienced, matched with amazing service. The couple that owns and runs this gem obviously puts their hearts into everything they do. We will definitely be back!

You won’t be able to experience many places like this in the US (or all the Americas) so get a reservation and do it while you can. We went 2x omakase which had interesting multi-seaweed miso (best I’ve ever had), best tofu and tempura I’ve ever had, hand roll and two unbelievably good sushi platters…why isn’t raw ono more of a thing? Plus had a fun chat with lovely owners after

Oh my goodness. What a gem of a spot. I had no idea about this place and I’ve lived here my whole life! Truly a hole in the wall, but a hidden treasure! The sushi is amazing and the owners are even more amazing. My husband and I did the omakase experience and it was lovely. I was more than satisfied. The Japanese couple that run the restaurant are so kind and make everyone feel like family. You do need to make reservations in advance, but it is so worth it. A must do!!

I went to dinner here with my partner and the food was amazing, unique, and it was authentic Japanese food. The couple who owns the restaurant are from Japan and incorporate food and drinks from their hometown there. We got the sushi platter prix fixe menu and also had the sake pairing. The meals in the sushi platter were more than delicious and was unlike any sushi I’ve ever had before. They were also super helpful and accommodating as they were able to make their food gluten free and it was safe for someone like me with Celiac Disease to eat! In the photo of the sushi and special roll, the very bright orange sushi next to the pickled ginger was sea urchin and tasted amazing! I was looking for a place that would potentially have that unique of a dish in Hawaii and there it was! I usually am a little picky with the fish I like to have for sushi meals, but I loved all of them. I feel like at other sushi places, one may get chewy fish for sushi, but the freshness, texture, and how smooth each fish was to munch on made this place stand out above all sushi I’ve ever had. The sake also paired well with each course they accompanied. You are also able to try different types of sake, such as filtered (clear) and unfiltered (cloudy/milky white) sake.

To go here, you need to make a reservation ahead of time since they only have about three tables to eat at. I highly recommend this place and be sure to look on their website about the owners’ story – very wholesome! You should definitely make it a stop on your Big Island itinerary. I feel that it is best enjoyed by doing one of their prix fixe menus for your first time there. Also, I would only go as a party of 2 people or a very small group – this experience is more intimate, wholesome vibes, and has limited seating at this location, but I feel like that’s what makes it all the better!
