In Auburn, New York in a quiet residential area is this tasty Puerto Rican restaurant. It’s a clean on the outside and clean on the inside although it smells like Fabulosa lol….. They have some tables on the inside and they have an outside patio area. The parking is limited you can park on the street and then they have a very small driveway that can fit maybe two cars.

The food is more buffet style however, you have someone on the other side, preparing it for you . I was kind of skeptical when I saw it presented as a buffet however, the rice was seasoned perfectly with the black beans, and the sweet plantains, just the right amount of sweetness, and the flan was perfection. The gentleman serving me was nice and assisted me with explaining each item .

I will definitely be back for more of their delicious food. Cheers

Food at Don Juan used to be delicious and authentic. I feel it has shifted to try to appeal to the demographic of Auburn instead of sticking to it’s authentic roots. Food used to be well seasoned, spicy, and amazing. Menu items were more genuine Puerto Rican food.

The empanadas have suffered especifically. Used to be made with seasoned ground beef and shredded, seasoned chicken. Now they are unseasoned ground beef and unseasoned ground chicken, both mixed with what tastes like cheap American cheese.

The sandwich options used to feel authentic but now just feel like specialty subs.

The sweet plantains are still good, but half of mine were undercooked.

I miss what it used to be, because now it just feels like they’re trying to get more customers from the nursing home across the street, so they had to dumb down all the flavor to appeal to them.

Really disappointed and sad.

We heard really good things about this place. So I had to come here and try it for myself. I ordered the beef and cheese empanadas, chicken empanada, Potato ball, pork stew meal with rice and beans, and a order of bbq ribs. The beef and cheese empanadas are good. The ribs where amazing , they fall right off the bone and have lots of meat on them. The pork stew was yummy. My dads old girlfriend was from Guatemala. The pork stew tasted exactly like she used to make I really liked it. The potato ball I could have done without. I’m so full I haven’t had a chance to try the chicken empanada yet. Will definitely be coming back again. The prices are amazing. The portions are huge. Definitely more of a takeout place, however they have tables to dine at.

A hole in the wall GEM! Wonderful authentic Puerto Rican food. Huge portions. Tender. Fall of the bone. So much flavor! Only wish the empanada was crispier. But still 5 stars

Had roasted pork, rice and beans and very happy.

Lunch portion was very fair and I ate half for dinner too. The lunch size was $10 and the dinner size was $15.

The menu that is posted is very old and not even remotely useful.
