My husband and I ate at the Fat Chef for the first time last night, and I’m honestly still thinking about how perfect the whole experience was. The food was absolutely impeccable. The steaks and sides were rich, flavorful, and clearly made with so much care. The service was just as impressive. Christine was so warm, and took the time to chat with us throughout the meal and share the stories and inspiration behind different menu items. It made everything feel so personal and inviting.
And I have to say, the pecan cobbler might be the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. Truly unforgettable.
From start to finish, this was a 10/10 experience, and I will absolutely be back. Highly, highly recommend.

You drive up and it doesn’t have anything fancy about it as far as looks. You walk in and you are greeted by friendly smiles. The inside again isn’t Ruth Chris house, BUT our food was delicious!!! I enjoyed their garlic bread and spread, so good! Prices are pretty expensive so I won’t be coming here every weekend but maybe on a special occasion. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us multiple times. We met the chef and thanked him for our delicious dinner.

My husband and I initially noticed the unassuming Fat Chef restaurant when we were driving to Beaver Lake. I looked up the menu and was very pleasantly surprised.

Since our initial visit a couple years ago we have been back for a Christmas dinner, anniversary dinner and just because we love it.

It’s a husband and wife who own it. The restaurant provides a casual atmosphere with an elevated menu. They get fresh fish flown in (I ate mine before I took a pic but try the walleye) and make their own breads and desserts from scratch.

*Keep in mind, the entree price includes bread, salad, starch and a vegetable.

You won’t be disappointed!

Hands down the best meal we have had eating out in five years. I called last minute and Christine, one of the owners and the hostess fit us right in. We started with the homemade onion rings. They were dipped in a beer batter and outstanding (brought three home). We were also served a nice loaf of bread that Christine had baked herself. It was so tasty. Our entrees came with a house salad. It was well presented with very fresh ingredients and not so large that it would fill us up before our steaks.

The hit of the meal was the steaks. Christine let us know they were all Prime grade and sourced a group of six farms in Iowa (as a rancher I often ask who supplies your beef). I had the T-bone Charbroiled (24-26 oz.) cooked medium rare. Richard , the chef and also Christine’s husband, cooked it just the way I asked and it was outstanding (brought two-thirds of it home!!!). My wife had the Filet(Pan Seared) 6 oz cooked medium. She said it was delicious. Both of us thought the baked potatoes were superb. And the squash medley was well seasoned. For dessert we had the Pecan Cobbler with the vanilla ice cream…which we took to go…it was so good.

Our server was Rich and he was busy but took great care to see if we needed anything during the evening. The Fat Chef is in an older restaurant but it had a quaint atmosphere. A FIVE STAR MEAL!!!!!

It pains me to write a bad review because the owner’s wife and our server were so nice & charming. But their prices for the atmosphere/food is simply insane.

Kind of shocked they’re still in business.
They must be related to the Walmart world or something.

I spent 36 years in Vegas…I know a thing or two about “fine” dining. It’s mind boggling how much they charge for Waffle House atmosphere and Olive Garden quality food. No one dining there looked happy or impressed. They all got swindled like we did. The google $50-100 a person is a scam. We paid $450 for 3 people.

My simple pasta was $78 with chicken and a couple shrimp. My mom’s pasta had ONE scallop. So crazy. My dad’s filet mignon was decent, but nothing to write home about.

Arkansas folk are different.

Christine the owner is amazing. Our server was top notch as well. Dinner was a filet with crab stuffed prawns topped with bernaise and perfectly seared scallops. The quality of ingredients is not seen elsewhere locally. Atmosphere is quiet but casual. Highly recommend.

We really wanted to enjoy our experience here because of the great recommendations. However it fell flat for us. It felt like a diner experience with fine dining prices. Plating was nice, but flavor of food left much to be desired. My twice baked potato tasted like it was baked 4 times. Steak was under cooked, and severely under seasoned, with a large portion jiggly hard fat that should have been removed. My husbands walleye was good, but again, his sides were under-seasoned. Cocktails were incredibly high priced. I didn’t even think about ordering one at around $25 a pop. When asked for a wine recommendation the server looked like a deer in the headlights. Over all we were disappointed. Also, the review replies of “we aren’t for everyone, and that’s ok” is not ok. Obviously there is an issue if so many people are having the same experience. Might be time to actually listen to your reviewers.

We are traveling from out of state and were told that we had to try their food: THERE ARE NO WORDS! I have never had food this good, EVER! We did not know that a reservation was needed on Friday and Saturdays, so we were excited when one of the owners agreed to squeeze us in. Our server, Danielle, was new, but she did an amazing job. We shared a massive T-Bone steak, with lobster, prawns, and scallops and the twice baked potato. It was so delicious! We also ordered their pecan cobbler for desert and that blew our minds. We will be back with family and friends!
