Pros: 13.50 lunch; large serving for lunch menu; restaurant appears clean. Hot food cooked to order. Clean presentation. The batter for the sesame chicken was crispy.
Cons: waited 10 mins after being seated to get water/place order; sesame chicken- poor quality chicken (more like like mush, no texture to the chicken), sauce was way too sweet like syrup with notes of gelatin.
Neutral: no background music, elevated conversations from other customers.

I made reservations at the Hong Kong Garden Restaurant 3 weeks out because they’re hard to get due to it’s exclusively. Everything was lined up perfectly, Who Bang Lee Lee was looking particularly great in her traditional Chinese evening dress and had mentioned more than once about happy endings. The Uber driver was right on time and took us directly to the Hong Kong City Restaurant…What I said “Hong Kong City Restaurant…supposed to be Hong Kong Garden” the Uber driver said…Same thing, have a good dinner, and drove off. Well, the Hong Kong City Restaurant was still pretty good, and 200 bucks less expensive.
5 stars. ☆☆☆☆☆

Fairly decent Hong Kong style restaurant /cafe located on Park Boulevard. Portions are somewhat hefty, and what we ordered tasted pretty good. The curry beef stew was my favorite. Other winners include their beef chow fun and Mongolian beef with rice. This isn’t necessarily Panda express type of Chinese cooking.

Service is friendly and efficient. Parking in the public garage next to the theater is free after 6pm.

If you’re in the mood for Chinese food, not Chinese American food, give Hong Kong City restaurant a try.

Food is always good and consistently made to taste each and everytime we order a dish we’ve had during a previous visit. The owner is very nice and is always busy at work either helping up front or assisting in the back. The pot stickers are the big juicy hand made kind, with quality ingredients. It’s surprisingly hard to find a good quality one that’s not solely at a dim sum restaurant lately.

Great food – every dish was good. Great service. Good size portions.

We had a family lunch yesterday: West Lake Beef Soup, Salt & Pepper Squid (crispy, good flavor, a bit chewy), Fried Chicken Wings (Disappeared too fast to get a photo, Mom complained she only got one!), Mongolian Beef (tender, good flavor), Honey Walnut Prawns (good, Mom’s favorite), Egg Plant w/Garlic Sauce (good, a bit on sweet side), Salty Fish Chicken Fried Rice (good strong salty fish flavor), and Hong Kong Pan Fried Crispy Noodles – Bok Choy Chicken.

I’ve done takeout from here several times, but this was the first time for sit-down meal. The service was friendly and attentive.

This place is still great. Since my first review, we’ve gone in for 2 more large family lunches (12-20 people) and 3 smaller (~4 people) dinners. Food is excellent and service is still friendly and attentive. Today we had:
-Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings (椒鹽雞中翼) – no photo
-Honey Walnut Prawn (合桃大) – repeat
-Salty Fish Chicken Fried Rice (鹹魚雞粒炒飯) – repeat
-Bitter Melon Stir-fried w/Beef (涼瓜炒 w/牛肉) – new
-Sweet Sour Chicken (甜酸雞) – new

I’m not much in Alameda but their Hai Nam Chicken at Hong Kong City Restaurant was really good! Ginger sauce & peanuts tie up the whole plate! Worth coming . On a side note, chairs inside the bathroom was funny!
Will definitely come back again.

Great value in lunch specials. Bittermelon sparerib (sub egg rice with regular rice) was great. Mabo tofu was different; not used to tomato flavor there. I posted other dinner entrees which were great. Definitely a lot to try in the lunch options. Will be back when I have another HK craving

We ordered the special dinner- 3 dishes and dessert. Unfortunately quantity over quality prevailed. Huge servings but the food was pretty tasteless and undercooked.

We arrived just before the dinner rush at 5 pm. Ease in seating, fast and kind service. Our server had a great sense of humor , which added to our trust and comfort. There was no rush to scurry us out, although the dinner crowd was arriving and any table was premium. Oh. And the food was delish . Spinach garlic greens are the best!
