I’m delighted to see the “Best Levain Team” back together again. Welcome back to Bethesda, Notra! Bri and Mamado missed you as much as I did! This is the best bakery in Bethesda that sells the best chocolate chip walnut cookies!

My toxic trait is that I always need a dessert after a meal. I was staying at the Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ and this bakery was a short walk and even shorter drive from the hotel. Chocolate chip cookies are a top 3 dessert for me so the choice was easy once I scanned the menu. Unfortunately I have a walnut allergy so I had to pass on their signature cookie and try the Two Chip Chocolate Chip cookie. I’m so glad I indulged in my guilty pleasure because this cookie was AMAZING!!! I thought I wouldn’t enjoy the thickness of it in fear that it wouldn’t be too doughy and undone in the center, but that wasn’t the case at all! It was baked to perfection, and obviously the best way to enjoy it is warm. It was so good I had to get a second one for the drive back home to North Carolina. I travel to D.C. a few times a year for work and this place will be a staple for my future visits.

The inside of the bakery was small but serviceable. No tables for dining in but that wasn’t a problem because after the calories I digested I needed the walk back to feel better about myself for re-bigging my back lol. Service was straight forward and I like the option to order from the self service kiosk in case other parties are indecisive and taking longer to figure out their order.

The first time I went to Levain Bakery … I was in the Georgetown location, and I was concerned that this spot wouldn’t be as good because you know, how could it be?

But let me tell you the Levain Bakery skills transfer … These people can bake… I have never had a cookie like this… they are sooo delicious ‍ … I wish we had one of these in my town. The cookie is almost as big as a biscuit and the chocolate chip to cookie ratio is unbelievable…. It’s quite amazing. I will never be afraid to walk into this store, no matter the location… Go there and eat all the delicious baked goods, you might need to hit the gym or fast the next day, but wow it’s worth it no matter what!!!

It’s a beautiful bakery with lots of baked goods to choose from. I was craving a chocolate chip cookie. This cookie was thick, dense, and cakey, and the center was soft like and crumbly. The flavor was intense chocolate from the chocolate chip but was lacking the buttery richness that I prefer in a cookie. The price is at $5.50 per cookie.
If you prefer thinner, chewy, butter rich cookies, this isn’t it.

I’ve ordered cookies from them a few times, and I have to say that they are pretty good cookies! Note these are big, lumpy cookies that weigh about 5.8oz each (yes, I weighed them with a kitchen scale). These cookies are expensive ($5 each), but honestly, the price makes sense when going by weight. They are also generous with the toppings.

The outside of the cookies are a little crisp (dry) and the insides are thick, chewy, and doughy. I recommend eating them by pieces (as opposed to chomping on them) and having some kind of liquid nearby to help wash them down. They also taste good warm, though they fall apart easily that way. I personally love the chocolate walnut cookies, but that’s mainly because I like having a little crunch in my cookies .

The store itself is small, clean, and brightly lit. There’s a counter in the back with the standard cafe items as well as free water (and cups). There’s some tables outside, but none inside. The staff were quick to greet me and were friendly.

Absolutely fantastic French bakery in the heart of Bethesda. The chocolate chip brioche are absolutely to die for and super fresh! It is very evident that this bakery uses only the best ingredients and real butter. That comes out in the taste and flavour of their fantastic baked items. We love the sour cream coffee cake. All of their homemade cookies are fantastic!

We went on a national holiday and was surprised This location was not busy at all. located in the heart of Bethesda downtown area, convenient parking garage right across the street.

Service: efficient but not very friendly, no smile 🙁

Food: the cookies are gigantic, and delicious, but too sweet for me, however hubby and rest of the family loves it.

Price: not cheap at all, on the pricy side, but given the size of these cookies come in, I will say is not too bad.

Inside the shop: a quite spacious place, looks clean

During Bethesda’s Restaurant Week, I enjoyed the bakery’s cookie special: any 3 cookies for $10. I bought a chocolate chip walnut, an oatmeal raisin and a two chip chocolate chip. The cookies are scrumptious but huge. Each of them weighed between 6 and 7 ounces, so nearly a half pound a piece. Clearly each cookie should be shared among multiple folks. The cookies cooled off completely by the time I reached home so I reheated for 15 seconds in the microwave. This was just enough to get the chocolate chips to start to melt, which made for a truly delicious mess.
