My friends and I went for the crawfish deal that was mentioned throughout the reviews we read (the 5 lbs for $40) but unfortunately it’s no longer a thing so just a heads up! I believe it ended up being $9.99/pound. We all got 2 lbs of crawfish with the house special sauce w/corn, potatoes, and sausage. For appetizers, we got the wings (garlic parmesan and lemon pepper) and the BTN.
The wings were hot, crispy, and juicy! The flavors were on the faint side but it was still enjoyable. The BTN was delicious- crispy/chewy rice paper with savory toppings (a must try)!
As for the crawfish… it was unfortunately waaaay too salty. I’m usually the type to easily destroy 2 lbs of crawfish but I struggled hard to finish this one. Every bite required you to chug water and it just wasn’t pleasant. The potato was undercooked, the corn was fine, and the sausage’s texture was great but it was also way too salty.
Huge shout out to the waiters here! I know it was incredibly busy and my friends and I were a big group of 10 so they did a great job at making sure all the orders were taken care of and filling our waters.
I really wanted to love this spot but unfortunately, I would be hesitant about coming back.
The pasta, fries, & boudin balls was a hit too, if the seafood boil isn’t your cup of tea.
Everything was so good, we had to order to go to have our kids try all this goodness.
On top of that, this was the first time I’ve ever been charged extra per pound for sauce. Not only was the extra fee surprising, but the sauce itself was way too sweet and didn’t complement the crawfish at all.
Overall, pretty disappointing. For the price, I expected much better quality.
Since it’s very early in the season, the crawfish were mostly on the small side, which I expected. That being said, the flavor was poppin this time around–way better than before.
I only ordered the boudin balls because a lot of reviews mentioned they had cheese in them. I was really looking forward to that because Bonfire Wings used to have boudin balls with cheese, and I absolutely loved those. Unfortunately, these did not have cheese. They were okay, just not what I was expecting.
Overall, this visit was a solid improvement, and I’m looking forward to going back soon, especially as the crawfish get bigger later in the season.
South X Saigon has amazing reviews, and the food looks incredible! My main reason for visiting was the crawfish—I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long, and I finally got the chance. I called in an order for their 5 lb crawfish special for $35, and I added a sausage and an egg. I chose a mix of traditional Cajun and garlic with medium spice since I’m not a fan of the sweeter sauces.
The gentleman at the counter was very kind and helpful during pickup. Once I got home and settled in to eat, I was a bit surprised by the size mix of the crawfish. These days, I eat crawfish 2 to 3 times a week (yes, I know I have a problem—but I’m not joining Crawfish Anonymous just yet! ). I’m used to a mix of mostly large, some medium, and a few jumbo, but rarely any small ones. This batch had quite a few small ones, which was a letdown.
The flavor also wasn’t soaked into the crawfish themselves—the juice was where all the seasoning was. I ended up grabbing a side of Slap Ya Mama boil to mix into my butter for dipping just to give it more of a kick. The egg lacked flavor altogether—seemed like it had been boiled in plain water and tossed in without seasoning.
Unfortunately, this meal didn’t hit the spot or satisfy my crawfish craving. Maybe it was just an off day, and I’m still open to giving them another try, but I’m not sure when that will be.
The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the crawfish and shrimp with the House seasoning, and it was phenomenal. We also tried the BTC, hush puppies, and the lime pepper wings—every single dish was delicious and clearly made with care.
What really made the experience stand out was the hospitality. The owner, Skip, and the entire staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Skip even brought us a sample of the Pan Roast, which was excellent and something we’ll definitely be ordering next time.
The restaurant itself has a great vibe. It’s a bit on the smaller side, but it still felt comfortable and welcoming rather than cramped. The music and atmosphere added to the overall experience.
We had such a great time and can’t wait to come back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area!
Both the crawfish and potatoes were big, and their crawfish meat is flavorful!! Service was quick and friendly.
Love this place!!
