I should have known better, as there was only about 5 people eating in the restaurant on a Saturday night and Valentine’s Day at that, but I took a chance… definitely a no! The food was mediocre at best. My husband got steak and carnita tacos, the steak looked like it was boiled. No color or flavor. The carnitas were a big pile of flavorless grease. I ordered a pina colada, I definitely did not get a pina colada. It was a frozen margarita. I was even charged for a margarita. Also, our waiter was pretty rude. Not attentive, seemed annoyed, and was even kind of snappy towards me. Even though the food sucked and our waiter was a jerk, I still paid for our food, which was outrageously priced and left a tip, but I will never go back there again. If you know what good Mexican food is, steer clear of this place, cuz this ain’t it. Probably the worst Mexican food in Portage.

I told the waiter I was a vegetarian 4 times and he gave me a steak burrito. We flagged to the lady working and she started yelling “he knows” – clearly he did not know. The waiter didn’t apologize, didn’t seem sympathetic or care at all. Not only this, he did not come by once to ask for a refill or see how we were doing. When we asked for a refill, he got upset and said you should have just told me. I will not be coming back here due to the unfriendly service.

I decided to stop in on a whim after a basketball game, to get carnita tacos and guacamole dinner take out. First of all, there is free parking right out front. LaCabana has handicapped accessible entry and restrooms. This place has authentic decor. It is very clean, which is important to me. There is a bar, and dining available. The wait staff wore clean uniforms and were professional with the patrons dining. They have high chairs. The pricing is fair for the quality and quantity of the menu food offered. After eating the meal, I would definitely go back again and be a repeat customer.

Never again! First and last time for me. There was a bone in my chicken taco. I called the restaurant to let them know and the manager said that happens sometimes with small bones in shredded chicken. It definitely wasn’t a small bone.

I was really craving a margarita and some chips and salsa. Being that it was Sunday night, we were happy to find LA Cabana open until 9, which was perfect. They were not busy at all and were very attentive to us. I ended up getting a strawberry pina colada, and I’m so glad I did. It was super refreshing, and I love that it had chunks of coconut on top. I took a while looking at the menu because I really didn’t know what I wanted. I ended up getting the Hawaiian Fajita, which was the special. It did not disappoint. It was mounds of veggies with shrimp and grilled pineapple. I can not express how good it was. It came with rice, beans, pico, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. The portions were humongous! I still had half to bring home for lunch on Monday.
We had an excellent server as well. I believe his name was Alex. Very friendly from the get-go. We shared some good banter, which I enjoy. Makes you feel welcomed.

This restaurant is not only extremely clean but the Food, Drink and Service are great. The restaurant has a beautiful bar, amazing Margaritas and a wonderful selection of delicious food and dessert options. They also have daily specials and the food is fresh with generous portions, my favorite place!

This will be second visit here! The salsa is great the carne asada was good but the beans and rice missed an authentic feel to them. Service was excellent. Try their horchata its really good!

Good location the food is the same as the La Cabanas in Valparaiso In. This Location is a little bit more open the bar is set in the back on the left -there’s really no windows back there but its still a nice bar ( fancy basement bar style) It’s more of a dining room setting in this location very open but they’re utilizing their space very well. if you like the Valparaiso Cabanas you may not like this location but here at the portage location you will have less of a wait time.
