Cafe Alyce

We visited Cafe Alyce for brunch and tried the biscuits and gravy along with baos in three flavors which were pretty tiny for the price. The food was decent overall, nothing outstanding but satisfying. We wanted to try the smoothies, but unfortunately they were out of stock.

The place felt quite cramped, with tables very close to each other, which made moving around a bit uncomfortable. Service was okay, though the staff didn’t come across as particularly warm or welcoming.

Overall, it was a decent brunch experience, but the tight seating and average service took away from it slightly.

Oh, I like this Wonderland.

I mean, they show Turner Classic Movies on one wall. Did you know Ava Gardner was in a King Arthur movie? I didn’t. That is just awesome knowledge.

Also, the food is American deliciousness. The Hash Brown Fries were perfectly thick slabs of crispy starchiness. The Blackened Catfish was big and tender, like a Luther Vandross ballad. Mmmm, ballad seasoning. Served with a side of hearty grits. As hearty as being serenaded by Luther Vandross.

Definitely worth a return visit.

We’ve passed by this gem far too long. Finally sat down for a Saturday brunch with no reservations and was blown away. They are friendly and the music was just right. I would highly recommend reservations for brunch but we were lucky to be seated. I highly recommend the Southern take on Shashuka. The grits were fluffy and the

Went for Sunday brunch with a few friends, it was our first time there, food was really good, but I just have to mention that the server was a bit rude, didn’t like the way he approached us and how he took our order, not sure if he was just having a bad day or what, but wouldn’t come back if I knew he was serving my table again. The host was very friendly though! The place nice, but cold. Everyone was eating with Jackets on.

Very enjoyable experience. Eclectic menu, with great little tips from the servers. Excellent service (probably the best we’ve received anywhere). No overbooking, no long wait times. Very well, managed with plenty of staff and attention to detail.

Everything on the menu was clearly homemade. From the sauces to the marination of the meats to the dishes, items are prepared in-house. It shows in terms of taste. Nothing was standard and everything was worthy of repeating. Would definitely come back to again.

The owner personally came out to speak with us and explained a bit more about his philosophies. Very authentic and personal experience.

We stopped by this quaint shop with a rustic feel. The bread was nice and warm. The beef was well marinated and mixed with the bell peppers over eggs. The lox was unexpectedly warm with a side of mixed greens salad.
The service was fairly fast – we ended up pouring our own waters

I enjoyed a scrumptious and cozy ribeye for my frigid January birthday night. The salad, app and dessert hit the spot too, and my husband devoured the Chicken Makhani. Our attentive server made the experience feel so special, and the atmosphere is lowkey. We love it here!

Food was bland. Like, no salt bland. Not to mention both the indoor and outdoor dining environment can only be described as hostile.

We got an NJ Farmer ($24) with eggs, sausage and hashbrown. The hashbrown tasted like boiled potatos, there was not even a hint of flavor or salt. My boyfriend had to add a whole bottle of green hot sauce and ketchup to compensate for the lack of flavor.

The Shakshuka ($21) with sourdough was edible because it at least had some spices to it. But half the Shakshuka was filled with Grit and also came with a side of Grit that tasted like bland congee that had been left out overnight.

We were first seated at the counter right next to the kitchen, but I could not stand the smell of oil and smoke. Also, the lack of ventilation and aircon was suffocating. We requested to move to a different table and were seated outdoors, but we were instead baked outdoors by the blinding sun. Our table had no umbrella and we sat in the 90 degree heat and sun for 30 mins eating our bland hashbrowns and grit. It was an authentic NJ farmer’s experience.

The only decent thing about the restaurant was the server. He was kind enough to check up on us and apologized for the seating environment and the food.

I don’t get why it got such high praise from ratings and reviews.
