Born in Foggia, Italy, Lucio “Lou” Bozzelli co-founded with his brother, Tony, what was originally known as “Bozzelli’s Brothers Deli. Their business philosophy was simple: SERVE. GOOD. FOOD. Initially, the menu was limited to cold Italian sub sandwiches because they could not afford a grill. Through word of mouth, the only form of advertising the believed in, their business started to grow and as their budding operation improved they expanded the menu to include hot food like steak subs and pizza. Lou’s brother, Tony, continued to operate the business after Lou’s passing in 1989. To honor Lou’s legacy, his wife and children looked to the stars for inspiration–hence, the spaceman–and relaunched the shop and have now grown to five stores.

Ordering was easy, on a tablet right at the entrance.
The staff greeted us and provided us with anything we needed.
The highlight was the fresh lemonade filled with fruit! It was the perfect paring to the pizza!
Plus was the jumbo jenga available to play while waiting for your food.
10 out of 10!
The Italian sandwich had a little kick from the peppers which I loved, but it is very small and the meat has minimal flavor. The meats are the quality of a kids lunch kit you get at the grocery store. Not deli meats. The bread overpowers it.
The proportions and quality don’t match the price. But it’s also less expensive than most places in dc so it’s you get what you pay for.
I think they could use a few 2 person tables if they could make room to keep 1 person from sitting at their limited 4-6 person tables. This was the case when we first walked in and kept us from having a table, we almost left because it was too windy/cold outside… but fortunately a larger group left. Part of the intentional and friendly customer service was that one of the employees came outside to catch us and let us know the table was available.
My friend and I split a 10″ Bizarro Pizza, which was basically a vegan take on the classic meat lovers pizza. It was topped with vegan sausage and vegan meatballs, as well as caramelized onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and chili garlic sauce. The sausage and meatballs were amazingly flavorful and smoky, and I honestly almost thought they gave us the wrong order because it truly tasted like I was chowing down on real meat. The vegan meats paired beautifully with the caramelized onions and sun-dried tomatoes, and the chili garlic sauce gave the entire pizza the perfect amount of peppery, garlicky goodness. All of this was delicious with the soft, pillowy crust (they have both normal and gluten-free crusts available!!) and the vegan cheese, which melted shockingly well, and had a delightful flavor. All in all, I had a phenomenal experience at Bozzelli’s, and I can’t wait until I can come by again to try out their other plant-based options!
What impressed me equally was the reasonable pricing. Despite the outstanding quality, Bozzelli’s manages to offer a wallet-friendly experience. It’s rare to find a place that balances superb taste and affordability so well. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this gem in Georgetown is a must-visit.
I can confidently say that Bozzelli’s has secured a spot on my list of favorite pizza joints. The combination of mouthwatering flavors, reasonable prices, and the cozy ambiance make it a standout dining destination. Without a doubt, I strongly recommend Bozzelli’s to anyone who appreciates top-notch pizza with an authentic Italian touch.
What an awesome experience! I stopped by Bozzelli’s in Georgetown today and ordered their Metro Sub, and wow – it was absolutely loaded! Every bite was packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients, perfectly balanced and incredibly flavorful. It’s clear they don’t skimp on anything here.
The service was quick and friendly, and the sub itself was a masterpiece. If you’re in Georgetown and craving a truly satisfying and generously “loaded” sub, Bozzelli’s is the place to go. Highly recommend the Metro Sub
– you won’t be disappointed!
