Plain and Simpol is a very good Filipino restaurant. It’s now my families favorite. I am going to be completely unbiased with this review in hopes the restaurant may improve certain things. First off the place is a definition of a hole in the wall or a hidden gem. The parking lot is small and the place fills up quick with not much room to sit. That being said their Pork BBQ and their chicken inasal are standouts and are my families favorite. My son loves their Ube boba and I personally love their Turon w/langka. My wife is in love with their ube cookie! We are actually going to come back this weekend. The only dishes I am not fond of are the calderata and adobo. We had ordered the platter and both were very dry. On a positive note I can say the flavor was there and the Chicken Inasal was amazing. Just so everyone knows this isn’t fast food and everything is made to order so some patience is needed. The lady taking orders who I assume is the owner nice and accommodating despite being so busy. Overall with exception of two dishes at least for me is one of the best Filipino spots in NJ.

I have to start off by saying this was a very pleasant experience all around. The food was not only ready upon my arrival, but I saw that the pork spring rolls were JUST fresh out of the fryer. So I guess I’ll start with the pork rolls, they had a nice little kick; I don’t know if that was from the pork roll itself or the sauce that accompanied it. However there also a nice sweetness to the sauce. And the crispy pork itself was extremely succulent, tender, juicy, flavorful and just an all-around good time!!! The juices from the pork luckily dripped down onto the sticky rice. Talk about a wonderful surprise! The egg that they gave me also had some type of sauce on it and that was a nice touch, if I may say so as well. They give you some type of slaw, I really wouldn’t know how to describe it other than a slaw; but it doesn’t have much taste to it, kinda looks like maybe cabbage, but it wasn’t an issue. There were so many flavors going on, that all I can do is smile between bites. I’m glad I gave this place a try, I can’t wait to return, and I will most definitely be suggesting this to any and everyone I see within the next week!

This place is a hidden GEM. I drove past so many times and then finally a work friend brought me to try it out and it’s now on the normal rotation in our house. Our favorites are the crispy pork sisig, teriyaki chicken (pictured) pork and beef lumpia and the ube cheesecake (if you’ve never had this before GET IT….its such a delicious treat). The workers are always friendly and the food is always hot and fresh.

This spot is quickly becoming one of my weekly go-to’s. I have ordered from them three times and each time has been yum. My favorite dish is their chicken teriyaki, it’s different than other restaurants, not too sweet with a nice char on the chicken. They also serve it on a bed of rice, with Cesar salad and a fried egg on the side. Both pictures are of the teriyaki chicken, one was eaten in house, one was take away. I’m looking forward to trying more of the dishes on the menu, I’m sure they’ll also be good.

The Filipino food here was very nice. Longanisa was very delicious, and there was a nice portion of tasty sinangag. Ube waffle was the best item I had there. Ube coffee was slightly underwhelming, but still decent. Service was very fast, but the lady at the cash register is a little abrupt and blunt. Atmosphere is nice, but it’s a very tight place, so not much seating or parking available.

Food was amazing. Citrusy and a kick of spice. Prices are fair for filipino food

I’ve been to many Pinoy restaurants in NJ and NY areas and I have to say
Plain and Simpol is a hands down winner in variety, flavor, freshness, service, congeniality and cleanliness. My fave is the sisig and found the recipe here to be flavourful, just as it should be but also unique. Because its flavor varies greatly at each venue, it has become my favorite. I found this one competes with any and likely the best I’ve tried, not heavily hot spiced and overbearing but perfectly sumptuous. Prices are reasonable and the menu is extensive.

W o W! Every bite is WOW! This is a must try place. Be prepared to wait bc the chef/owner Jeff cooks the meals himself from scratch! Everything is made to order and it’s def worth the wait!! He is super generous with his servings. We had the OH LAM which feed 4-6 people. The Caldereta beef super soft and tasteful! The chicken inasal love the flavoring! The garlic fried rice you just keep wanting more! It comes in a box which I thought was really creative. It’s a super clean place and decently priced. The Halo Halo was amazing too! Love the touch of Frosted Flakes cereal. Everything was FRESH! Def will be coming back to try their breakfast and ube boba! Also the turon looooooooved!
